Angels Memorial is closing its doors. CBS has cancelled its Code Black TV show after three seasons. Creator and showrunner Michael Seitzman has already confirmed the Code Black cancellation. Although the production utilized the extraordinary measures of amputating some original series regulars (Raza Jaffrey and Bonnie Somerville) and grafting on a big name (Rob Lowe), the patient eventually succumbed to acute ratings anemia.
A CBS medical drama, Code Black stars Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Lowe. The story unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — home of the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The high patient volume dwarfs the resources available to the exceptional staff — creating a condition known as Code Black.
According to Seitzman despite the cancellation, the third season should continue to air in its regular timeslot. Because he expected the there would be no season four, it seems the team wrote the season three finale to serve as a series finale. Check out what he has to say, below.
Code Black: A Look at the Ratings
The third season of Code Black, which just kicked off on April 25th, is averaging a 0.71 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.448 million viewers. Compared to season two, that’s down by about 26% and 9%, respectively.
Of the 27 scripted CBS TV shows we’ve been tracking during the regular 2017-18 television season, Code Black ranks 23rd in the demo. That number only rises to 21st, when we sort by average total audience. In other words, the cancellation makes business sense.
EP Michael Seitzman Confirms Code Black Has Been Cancelled by CBS
Making sure to thank the fans, Seitzman, whose Quantico on ABC also fell prey to the Television Vulture, announced Code Black will not return for season four. Check out what he has to say about the remaining episodes and anticipating the need for a Code Back TV series finale.

What do you think? Are you a fan of the Code Black TV series? If it were up to you, would it be cancelled or renewed for season four on CBS? Sound off in the comments.
DO NOT CANCEL – best show on your channel!!
My family and I loved this show. We were completely floored when we found out tonight’s show was the end. I think it was an awesome show, and it would have done better in the ratings if it would have been placed on a regular time slot instead of a summer show. We’re truly going to miss this show. Good luck to the cast. You will all be missed.
My immediate reaction after every season is to look up when the next will begin… there is no explanation as to why this show would be cancelled other than #CBS waited so long to air the 3rd season and them forced it into a 10pm (EST) time slot! This is ridiculous!!! This is good entertainment and the fact that it isn’t a bogus reality show is a bonus. Why would I watch TV with the very limited time I have? I’ve made the time to for #CodeBlack…. poor decision CBS, poor decision.
I wouldn’t cancel the show, I love it. All the story lines and the interpersonal interactions are very entertaining. I laugh, cry, and am on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what happens. Please being it back!
I am so sad to see Code black end!!! This was my all time favorite show on Wednesday nights. The show was so compassionate and made me cry all the time. I really loved the cast members as well. I can’t believe this show has ended!!!! I love this show. Can’t you guys do a show on Netflix or something?
Just look at the comments people are leaving once they heard Code Black was cancelled – way to many.
No good medical drama when this one is gone.
It wasn’t about sex, and relationships were a sideline topic. Profanity was at a minimal.
Easily worth the hour time slot.
How are you going to replace it? With a junk comedy? Skin show? Something not even close to reality?
Very disappointed.
Can’t say how much we love this show and was shocked to see the words “series finale” tonight. I had never thought to look if it was canceled because I never thought it would be. Canceling this show is just crazy, especially when I see Murphy Brown is coming back!!! Really?
I’m really going to miss this show It’s the best medical drama on tv. It actually focuses on the characters and medical cases. Unlike the medical shows that seem to be more about the hospital staff having sex in any spare room available. I wish they’d renew it or another network would pick it up. Please?!?
Great ending to Code Black. Now, that being said, whoever makes the decision to cancel should revisit. Even though this last show was written as a finale, I see potential for it to come back. PLEASE!!!!
I am so disappointed. I absolutely hate getting into a show and it getting cancelled when your really invested in the characters. Love the show, wish this was not the answer.
I’m so sad! I think it’s the best show on TV!
I finally found a show I am super interested in that has a lot of quality medical knowledge any its going to get cancelled as soon as it starts. This sucks! I hope there is a chance of another network picking it up
Code Black is best show ever on TV.
Rob Lowe better than Clooney, Stamos, and Michael J Fox all rolled into one. And the rest of the cast is just as awesome.
Only show we tune in for every week. You are missing out if you havent seen this show.
Got to find a way to keep it.
im going to quit watching anything on cbs. I love this show and there is no reason why it should be taken off. I know im not only one to feel this way. they put on survivor and big bother year after year they need to leave this show alone. I literally cry at every episode. a show that can do that each and everytime needs to be left alone.
This was a great series. A show both my husband and I could watch together and enjoy. Never missed a show. Sometimes it is the time slot it is in which causes a drop in viewers. Will greatly miss it.
