Angels Memorial is closing its doors. CBS has cancelled its Code Black TV show after three seasons. Creator and showrunner Michael Seitzman has already confirmed the Code Black cancellation. Although the production utilized the extraordinary measures of amputating some original series regulars (Raza Jaffrey and Bonnie Somerville) and grafting on a big name (Rob Lowe), the patient eventually succumbed to acute ratings anemia.
A CBS medical drama, Code Black stars Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Lowe. The story unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — home of the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The high patient volume dwarfs the resources available to the exceptional staff — creating a condition known as Code Black.
According to Seitzman despite the cancellation, the third season should continue to air in its regular timeslot. Because he expected the there would be no season four, it seems the team wrote the season three finale to serve as a series finale. Check out what he has to say, below.
Code Black: A Look at the Ratings
The third season of Code Black, which just kicked off on April 25th, is averaging a 0.71 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.448 million viewers. Compared to season two, that’s down by about 26% and 9%, respectively.
Of the 27 scripted CBS TV shows we’ve been tracking during the regular 2017-18 television season, Code Black ranks 23rd in the demo. That number only rises to 21st, when we sort by average total audience. In other words, the cancellation makes business sense.
EP Michael Seitzman Confirms Code Black Has Been Cancelled by CBS
Making sure to thank the fans, Seitzman, whose Quantico on ABC also fell prey to the Television Vulture, announced Code Black will not return for season four. Check out what he has to say about the remaining episodes and anticipating the need for a Code Back TV series finale.

PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL CODE BLACK. I absolutely love the show and ALL the characters and you can do so much with all of them!! What a waste to take something this good off for ANOTHER one of those stupid reality shows!!!
Please don’t let Code Black be over. It is one of the best shows on TV! The actors are terrific and the storyline is one of the best! Please reconsider your decision if it’s not too late!
I’m a RN of over 40+ years in Trauma, ICU, CCU, & ER., Supervisor of hospital latest job. I have been so impressed how well this show depicts the ER, ICU, & trauma. The episodes, the cast their acting ability is stellar as they are depicting life & death decisions with life hanging in their hands, literally. Please consider bringing this Code Black back to TV for another season? Their are millions of viewers who love this show and feel the same as I.
Thank you

I am so sad this show is going off the air. I feel that it’s time slot is the problem. Is there any way to try it in a different slot. 10-11 is really hard for a worker to stay up and watch. I bet if you could count dvr and on demand. I bet you would have numerous views!please help us save a good one!
One of the best shows on tv. Personally, I think it’s a mistake to cancel it. Someone made a really poor decision.
I think Code Black is one of the best shows on prime time tv today! I had a feeling watching the finale we were done! Then when I went searching ,I was so very disappointed to find out I was right! Aside from Greys, and in all honestly you guys had it all and more without all the silly Doctor sex! No offense to Greys it is a great show but there is a ton of…Code Black, for me, as a teacher and first responder/ lifeguard, had areal touch of reality , I am an injured coach/ teacher, home all the… Read more »
Code black is one of the most engaging and true to life shows that are on tv what are you trying to do push everyone to watch reality tv. We want something that you want to come home from work and sit down and watch that holds your attention and you get to know and care about the characters. Don’t take Code Black away please.
There were so many times during the 2018 season that Code Black was unquestionably the best tv series going. We DO NOT WANT THIS TO BE CANCELLED. Why were non-neilson members not polled? Somebody is making a horrible decision.
One of the best shows on network tv. One of the few I watch on a regular basis.
I really liked Code Black and wish that it hadn’t been canceled. The actors on the show were very believable in their parts and really pulled you into the show. I really wish that it would have been renewed!
I really wish Code Black was NOT Cancelleed. The show is great. The Actors and Actresses are wonderful and show true compassion like members of the medical profession should. I guess no matter how many people write in or ask for a show to remain on, those erroneous Ratings of 100 or so selected people will always win out. NOT FAIR AT ALL!!!
I agree, not fair at all. Code Black is my favorite show and I hate the decision to cancel it!!
