It’s back to school time, even at Hulu. The streaming outlet has finally acquired the sixth and final season of the Community TV show. Cancelled by NBC after season five, Yahoo Screen renewed Community for season six, then not only cancelled it again — but also partially blamed the pickup for the demise of its original programming venture.
Set at the fictional Greendale Community College, the sixth season of the single-cam comedy series starred Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Ken Jeong, Jim Rash, Paget Brewster, and Keith David. Last month, creator Dan Harmon said a Community TV series reunion movie will happen.

HULU ACQUIRES FINAL SEASON OF COMMUNITY UNDER NEW AGREEMENTS WITH SONY PICTURES TELEVISION
Expanded Pacts Include Exclusive Streaming Rights to Hit Drama Series Underground and Outsiders, as well as all Episodes of Rescue Me
SANTA MONICA, CA (August 15, 2016) – Hulu today announced new licensing agreements with Sony Pictures Television that add the sixth and final season of Community to its library – making the streaming service the exclusive SVOD home to the complete library of the cult comedy favorite. The deals also include the exclusive streaming rights to WGN America’s #1 scripted series Underground, as well as hit series Outsiders. All past episodes of Underground and Outsiders are available to stream now and future seasons will become available to stream on Hulu eight days following their season finales.
Beginning today, fans of the critically acclaimed, cult comedy, Community, can stream the entire series through its sixth season on Hulu. The addition of the sixth and final season brings the final chapter of the ensemble comedy to the streaming service. The final season revolves around Jeff Winger (Joel McHale) and the remaining members of the Save Greendale Committee as they enter their sixth year together under the watchful eye of Dean Pelton’s (Jim Rash) new management consultant, Frankie Dart (Paget Brewster). Created by Dan Harmon, the series also stars Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Jim Rash, Ken Jeong, Paget Brewster, and Keith David.
In addition to Community, the agreements will make the complete library of the Emmy® nominated, groundbreaking series, Rescue Me, available to Hulu subscribers for the first time later this month.
Upon its premiere this year, critically lauded drama series Underground, quickly became the #1 most social cable program on Wednesday nights. From creators and executive producers Misha Green and Joe Pokaski, and executive producer and Academy Award®-winner John Legend, the 10-episode, hour-long program tells the unflinching story of a group of courageous men and women who band together for the fight of their lives – for their families, their future and their freedom.
All past episodes and future seasons of breakout hit series Outsiders, which is currently in production for its second season, will also stream exclusively on Hulu. The WGN America drama series explores an epic battle between the Farrell clan and their fight to defend their land and way of life from the town below and anyone who would dare challenge them. Outsiders is created and written by award-winning playwright Peter Mattei, who executives produces alongside Fedora Entertainment’s Emmy® Award-winner Peter Tolan (“Rescue Me,” “Analyze This”), Touchy Feely Films’ Emmy® Award-winner Paul Giamatti (“John Adams,” “Sideways”), Michael Wimer (“2012,” “Rake”) and Dan Carey (“All Is Bright”).
The deals expand upon Hulu and Sony’s relationship. Earlier this year, Hulu and Sony announced a library deal that has added full seasons of fan favorite series and top films from Sony Pictures to Hulu, including all episodes of Happy Endings, The Shield, Party Of Five, Dawson’s Creek, Damages and beloved films such as JERRY MAGUIRE, MIDNIGHT IN PARIS and MY BEST FRIEND’S WEDDING.
Underground and Outsiders join all past seasons of WGN America’s Manhattan, which Hulu acquired the exclusive SVOD rights to in a previous agreement. Hulu’s rapidly expanding library of premium exclusive content includes ROOTS, Blindspot, Empire, Fargo, Lucifer, Curious George, South Park and groundbreaking licensing deals with major cable networks FX, Turner and AMC Networks, as well as full libraries of hit broadcast and cable shows, films and premium original series.
