Operatives Jones and Beneventi won’t be uncovering answers on NBC in the 2021-22 television season. The Peacock network has cancelled the Debris TV series for a second year.
The Debris TV show stars Jonathan Tucker, Riann Steele, Norbert Leo Butz, and Scroobius Pip. The story begins as mysterious wreckage starts falling from the sky. A secretive international agency named Orbital is tasked with figuring out what the wreckage is, where it came from, and most importantly — what it can do. British MI6 operative Finola Jones (Steele) and American CIA agent Bryan Beneventi (Tucker) are partners but they have very different styles. However, they have no choice but to trust each other as they track down the debris scattered across the Western Hemisphere. Each fragment has unpredictable, powerful, and sometimes dangerous effects on the everyday people who find it. They must race against time as shadowy outside forces seek these objects for nefarious purposes.
Airing on Monday nights, the first season of Debris averaged a 0.38 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.79 million viewers in the live+same day ratings. While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. Despite airing out of one of NBC’s highest-rated shows, The Voice, the drama was one of the network’s lowest-rated scripted shows.
The season finale of Debris aired on Monday night and not surprisingly left plotlines unresolved. The show’s series creator has talked about hoping to find a way to continue telling the story if it was cancelled.
Decisions have yet to be made on other NBC shows like Ellen’s Game of Games, Good Girls, Manifest, and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.
What do you think? Have you watched the Debris TV show? Do you wish that this sci-fi series had been renewed for a second season?
I LOVE THE SHOW DEBRIS …PLEASE DONT CANCEL IT . PLEASE PLEASE.
With so much crap on tv and they canceled a unique, intelligent show like Debris? Yeah, network tv is dead to me.
i was fascinated with Debris sci-fi is my favorite and there’s rarely any offerings the kinds of shows are so repetitive i love sci-fi
Noooo! Finally an interesting, well acted show on network tv and it gets cancelled. I must not have much in common with the average American because what remains on tv is shockingly bad.
Sad day 🙁
Have been watching Sci-Fi since 1967. Debri is the only new show I have bothered to watch in the last two years. I watch exclusively online, because I’m TECH savy. How about you stop ignoring us old folks and give us what we want, interesting plots with good writing and a sexy cast.
I want a second and more seasons on this series. I have re-watched season 1 to make sure I didn’t miss anything and it is really entertaining and intriguing. I love scifi series and this is one of the good ones with a lot of potential. There are so much back story to the characters to explore and with Noble entering in the final episode made me so happy. I seriously hope another network picks it up. It definitely deserves a save. NBC is notorious for starting something good and then stopping after 1 season. They should really stop doing… Read more »
So sad, but I’m not surprised. Networks long ago gave up investing in long arch series. Quick money, that’s what it’s all about. I would love to continue watching this series.
Sorry to hear about the cancelation. I was thinking with recent news coverage on unexplained flying vehicles. Would add to show excitement.
no surprise
Debris had so much potential. But it was a bit slow and I found myself zoning out while watching. The two episodes where they jumped into the water and reset the timeline was EXCELLENT. Should have been a template for the others.
a bit slow?? grass grows faster that their story line…
Except the whole “looping timeline until everything is fixed” thing has been DONE TO DEATH. Star Trek TNG, Farscape, and Medium to name a few did it, and did it expertly. The way Debris did it was boring.
Live, Die, Repeat. Membe that movie with Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise.
While this isn’t a surprise, this was the type of show that “Fringe” and “X-Files” fans would have watched religiously. The weekly ratings were fairly consistent and the show had a good chance of maintaining its borderline ratings in season 2. Bottom line is that NBC chose “The Black List”, which has jumped the shark a dozen times over one of the better Sci Fi shows in recent years.
It even looked a little bit “Fringey” when Walter Bishop himself showed up.
Miss that show (though the reruns are still syndicated here in Hell)
I know, I was looking for “Astro” by his side!
Fan of both shows you mentioned. I hated Debris. At least in the XFiles, which was a winning formula show, each episode had its mystery which was resolved in that episode, sometimes the one after. There was the overarching conspiracy, but it took a backseat to the mysteries of each episode. The only time the conspiracy took front and center attention were the midseason and season finales. When the formula flipped a few seasons in, viewership dropped. It doesn’t take an analyst to figure out what audiences like. I watched the whole season of Debris, hoping it could turn itself… Read more »
A lot of very enthusiastic viewers were backing Debris and hope that it will be picked up by a streaming platform. But Wyman needs to stop being such an ‘artist’ with a 5 season head-set, and understand the viewers want a story and meaning every episode, not filler and teasers. Hopefully a 2nd season will have new writers and new direction even if that means Wyman has to take a back-seat instead of running the show. There are a lot talented new exciting voices -let them be on the creative team.
Netflix producers. Are you reading these comments? Your platform is perfect for a smart, thinking show like this.
OMG!!! ARE you kidding me??? Whatever tired of good shows being canceled. What’s the point of watching any new show? Are you at least going to have an ending to this story or just abandon it?
Please bring Debris back the Show was great from Rubyred:)
no!!! I love Debris. Good story with great acting. NBC better find a way to have a wrap up movie to finish the story. Color me unhappy with the peacock network
