A couple weeks ago, FOX announced that the Empire TV show had been renewed for a sixth season for the 2019-20 season. Today, the network announced that that will be the end for the music drama. There won’t be a seventh season of what was once FOX’s biggest series.
Empire stars Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Bryshere Y. Gray, Jussie Smollett, Trai Byers, Gabourey Sidibe, Ta’Rhonda Jones, Serayah, Andre Royo, Rhyon Nicole Brown, and Nicole Ari Parker. The series revolves around the Empire Entertainment company, founder Lucious Lyon (Howard), his three sons (Gray, Smollett, and Byers), and their mother, Cookie (Henson). The Lyons lost the company in season four and season five saw the clan still trying to reclaim Empire two years later.
Season six will see Empire return to its original Tuesday timeslot and the drama will surpass the 100 episode mark. The sixth season will have 20 episodes, which will be the series’ biggest season yet. The first season had 12 installments while later seasons had 18 episodes each.
Here’s the relevant portion of FOX’s 2019-20 season press release:
Also this fall, THE RESIDENT moves to a new night and time on Tuesdays (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), followed by the sixth and epic final season of the groundbreaking cultural phenomenon EMPIRE (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), which returns to its original time period. Season Six promises to be filled with drama, shocking surprises and more jaw-dropping moments. The award-winning drama about a family dynasty set within the glamorous and sometimes dangerous world of hip-hop music has generated chart-topping hits, and socially relevant storylines, introduced “Boo Boo Kitty” into the zeitgeist and delivered over-the-top OMG moments weekly. Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) and Lucious (Terrence Howard), the two larger-than-life characters at the center of the series, have taken viewers through the highs and lows that come with fame and fortune. As the series enters its final season, one thing is for sure, the Lyons never go out without a bang.
On today’s press call, FOX Entertainment boss Charlie Collier said, “We are turning the final season into a large TV event. We’re trying to go out guns a-blazing.” There’s still no word on how big a role (if any) Smollett will have in the final season.
What do you think? Do you plan to tune in for the final season of Empire on FOX? Is this a good time for the show to say goodbye or, would you have watched a seventh season?
Please don’t cancel this show, all who loved Empire should rally around bringing it back. BET you should pick it up. Own pick it up, but don’t cancel please renew for the next four seasons, ten is a good number and the music was really outstanding along with the concept of family upholding each other. Thanks.
I agree with that Idea or even Netflix or Amazon and put the family back together. I am watching a show that I LOVE not into their personal life
Yes I would definitely had showed the 7th, 8th 9th etc.. season if there was one. Love Empire’s episodes and the Great guest that they had on.
I love Empire I will definately will be watching season 6. I wish there was going to be season
7,8,9,10 and more and more. I hope Fox change their mind and Do Not cancel after season 6.
I will watch it over and over will continue to watch season. 6 and more love it please continue the good work dint take it away please
I will definitely be watching Empire. I can’t wait for it to return. Empire is my favorite TV show. I can’t believe it’s ending. I’m heart broken about this decision.
Seems like Jussie Smollett killed off this dynamic family drama. He’s a nobody who thought he deserved a higher pay?! Wow, loser! CBS should’ve just fired him and kept Empire going. Otherwise, excellent cast! I’ll miss the rest of the Lyons family.
Really not sure what Jussie wanted dont know him personally and he didn’t tell me what he wanted. It’s like people are judging other people without knowing all I know is he was great on the show and they are trying to fine people to fill his shoes, but the shoes are huge and nobody has filled them yet. Even Kaheim has missed a few episodes made no difference but Jussie and Kaheim together was explosive he was the clue to the music on the show they should rethink the Jussie smollett saga and get over it bring him back… Read more »
Absolutely plan to watch the finale. It has been a great run. Only wish there were more seasons.
I most definitely will be watching the 7th season of Empire but am devastated that this will be the last season. Why would Fox cancel this show if it has one of the highest ratings?
Yes I will be watching no matter what empire is awesome Jussie Smollett should still be apart of Empire what ever happen to Ever happened to innocent until proven guilty I think that he deserve to have a second chance and what about his what about his reputation Jussie Smollett I am praying for you and your family
I will watch season 6 and would have watched seasons 7 , 8 , 9 etc… I really HATE to see it end.
This is BS. Empire is a great show up there with Grey’s anatomy..so why are you stopping a great thing. You will piss off alot of viewers. I’m gonna stop watching fix if it goes of the air. Everyone else please do the same. JUSTICE FOR EMPIRE.
no big loss, about time actually, ratings were in a downslide, and it couldnt help as a lead in for the also cancelled “star” , sadly it most likely means either more “reality” / competition / singing / dancing etc. garbage, or more vampires or superhero shows.
I’ve been watching Empire ever since the very first day it aired.. Never missed a single season or episode.. Like anything else it was only a matter of time before it wouldn’t be on anymore IT’S GONNA BE ABSOLUTELY TRAGICALLY SAD. No season 7.. Idk what I’m gonna do every Wednesday was the one and only day of the week…. Well Wednesdays and of course Friday’s were “my days” LET’S ALL HOPE FOR A MIRACLE AND GIVE ALL OF US EMPIRE FANS 1 BIG FREAKING SURPRISE!
Omg no 7th season what a shame. U get something so good and then let it go by ruining and cancelling something. What the hell are u thinking fox?
Of course I plan on watching but am concerned about reasoning behind ending the series and what about Star. What is its fate. What about 911 where will it fall. I have gotten used to The Resident and 911 together, as well as Empure and Star together. This is a mess.
