Fire Country could be the start of a new franchise for CBS. Chief George Cheeks spoke about the popular drama at an event earlier this week, and he revealed that the network had started looking at extending the series when it was given an order for its back nine episodes for season one.
Starring Max Thieriot, Billy Burke, Kevin Alejandro, Diane Farr, Stephanie Arcila, Jordan Calloway, and Jules Latimer, the series follows a convict (Thieriot) looking to shorten his prison sentence by joining a prison release firefighting crew in Northern California.
Cheeks said the following about the CBS series, per Deadline:
“We are focused on mass-appeal franchises. We started with expanding universes, reimagining, but also creating new franchises. And again, this season’s number one show was Fire Country, which completely lends itself to building out a whole new universe. So it is really important for us to double down on a franchise focus.
It became very clear that not only was the show special, it really felt like this could be a great example of us building together a franchise from scratch. And so I’m like, ‘you guys, congratulations, you got your back nine. Now let’s start talking about ideas for new extensions.’ They’ve already come up with some great ones … We’re not necessarily looking at next year. We’re looking when they’re ready. That’s the beauty of the gestation process. We know that we’re doubling down on this one, so let’s get it right. And whether that that means three years down the road or whether that means a Paramount+ original or a CBS original, we’ll see where it lands.”
Season two of Fire Country is scheduled to return to CBS this fall but could be delayed due to the writers strike.
What do you think? Do you want to see Fire Country expanded into a new franchise on CBS? Would you watch a related series or, is one enough?
I enjoy Fire Country and would be extremely upset if they took it to Paramount + or any other streaming venue. Please keep shows on our network channels. Not all people want to stream!!! Especially us older ones who don’t understand the whole system of streaming nor want to pay extra fees to do so. Please keep Fire Country around for a few more seasons.
I love Fire Country and I think I would watched a spin off of the show as long as they leave Fire Country and all it’s actors alone
Yes I would watch!
YES!!! Definitely would watch ❤️
I think a ‘Fire Country Franchise’ is a great idea. The initial show displays good and appropriate values with diversity in dilemmas and I think that spin-off show would have this sort of story also. Personally, I think they need professional consultants, some of the situations in the story-lines are just not going to happen. Over all I think that a Fire Country Franchise would be a great revenue to try.
Love Fire Country, not sure about a spin off ,not my area of expertise. I will however be more than annoyed if they take Fire Country to Paramount Plus(or perhaps they meant the spin off would possibly be on P+. I’m happy to just have more episodes of FC coming, hope the strike ends soon! 🙂
Fire Country was awesome…keep it rolling.
I love Fire Country. I would try a spin off, but don’t if it would work.
Too soon after the first season.
Love Fire Country cannot wait for it’s return. All I say is don’t spoil this one for a slightly different series. It’ll have to be different.
Yes the show is awesome!! Keep it going on!
I thought fire country was fantastic…..I hope they continue to expand the show.
One is enough
One is enough. This involves so much CGI & it’s not always good. And it just adds to the cost of producing the episodes. Expansion works better with people only oriented series that are using CGI in smaller, more manageable spots.
I really like the extension of the current, if you decide to add a similar show, it had best be as good as the current show.
Oh please. Enough with those spin-offs. It’s constant rehashing of storylines with carbon-copy characters set in a different city. It’s getting ridiculous.
