Last year, the For the People TV show on ABC didn’t exactly acquit itself well in the Nielsen ratings. At season’s end though, the network rendered a verdict resulting in a second season renewal. Does this series have the bona fides necessary to attract and retain an audience? Will For the People be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
From creator Paul William Davies, For the People stars Britt Robertson, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Ben Rappaport, Susannah Flood, Wesam Keesh, Regé-Jean Page, Ben Shenkman, Hope Davis, Charles Michael Davis, Vondie Curtis-Hall, and Anna Deavere Smith. The Shondaland legal drama unfolds at “The Mother Court,” i.e. the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. The ABC TV series centers on six young attorneys, who work on both sides of the law. Whether they represent the defense or the people, these lawyers ply their trade, trying some of the most publicized cases, and in federal court, the stakes can be sky high.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/17 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.

For comparisons: The first season of For the People on ABC averaged a 0.63 rating in the 18-49 year-old demographic and a total audience of 5.421 million viewers.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the For the People TV series on ABC? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
*5/9/19 update: ABC has cancelled For the People so there won’t be a third season.
What a shame that a show that was so good was canceled. This show was one of the few shows on TV that showed compassion and caring for others. It’s hard to find a show that is not violent these days. I’m sick of shows that promote violence or shows like The Bachelor that promote low morals. It’s time to start bringing back shows like FTP.
This is a really good show. It doesn’t surprise me that ABC would cancel it. They seem to be happier with game shows, frivolous comedy and bachelor shows. There is true talent in this cast, hopefully they can move to a different channel and continue.
Stop canceling new programs. The demographics that you poll from don’t even watch tv.
FOR THE PEOPLE IS A REALLY GOOD SHOW WHY DO Y’ALL KEEP CANCELLING GOOD SHOWS!! IT REALLY SUCKS! PLEASE DON’T CANCEL IT!!!!
I WATCHED BOTH SEASONS OF FOR THE PEOPLE IT’S A GOOD SHOW PLEASE DON’T TAKE IT OFF!!!!
The show is good for age group not sitting around on their cell phones all evening. The age group should be for older adults who enjoy this type of TV shows. As sitting on a Grand Jury now, I convinced 23 jurors to start watching and they liked it. Not all in age group ratings.
Please see to bring back mid season 2020 – the fewer shows, the less it costs to produce and show.
renew
Why don’t the networks realize there are people who want to watch something besides childish superheros or murder & mayhem? This is a show adults can enjoy. Please save it!!
