ABC is still trying to fill that Tuesdays at 10pm timeslot. Many ABC shows have been given that timeslot and they’ve all been cancelled — Killer Women, Body of Proof and Lucky 7, to name just a few. So, how’s the new Forever TV show doing? Will it break the trend or be cancelled as well?
On the Forever TV show, New York City’s star medical examiner is Doctor Henry Morgan (Ioan Gruffudd). He can ascertain things that most can not because of his vast experience — he’s been alive for 200 years but can’t figure out how or why. The rest of the cast includes Alana de la Garza, Lorraine Toussaint, Donnie Keshawarz, Joel David Moore, and Judd Hirsch.
The series got off to an okay start, following the season premiere of Dancing with the Stars on a Monday night. It attracted a 1.7 rating with 8.59 million viewers. The following night, in its permanent timeslot, the demo rose slightly but viewership dropped.

In week two, the ratings tumbled to a 1.4 in the demo with 5.69 million. In week three, they fell even lower and last week’s installment hit new lows with a 1.1 demo rating and 4.81 million viewers.
Just four weeks into the season and this show is already in serious trouble. ABC needs a successful show to fill the Tuesdays at 10pm timeslot and it’s clear that Forever isn’t the answer to their prayers. It’s unlikely that they’ll order any installments beyond their initial 13 episode order.
Will all of the episodes air? I suspect that ABC will release the six remaining episodes — probably before the holidays. The network may find other programming to air in the Tuesdays at 10pm timeslot during at least some of November sweeps however.
Either way, unless there’s a miraculous turnaround in the ratings, Forever is as good as cancelled. It’s yet another TV show about an immortal that will see its life cut short.
But, what do you think? Do you like this show? Would you like to see Forever cancelled or renewed for a second season?
11/7 update: ABC has ordered nine additional episodes.
Sorry Forever might be canceled. Saw only two episodes -was ready to get into it regularly. Ratings. If they’re not high enough, what else can the big bosses at the networks do? That’s the television business.
KEEP! Please! Love the actors and how well they interact!!! Give it a full season and a better time slot!
For goodness sakes! Give it a chance! Each episode is developing each character and their story line. Forever has the potential to give us many interesting episodes. Keep it with us!
Amen to that. These network people need to quit rushing to either cancel or order more after only one or two episodes have aired. Give the show a little time to find its audience, for cryin’ out loud! They usually just fill the timeslot with worse crap or reruns anyway, is that really better than giving a new show a fighting chance?? What idiots.
It’s getting harder and harder for me to watch new shows cuz as soon as I do and really like them, BAM!!!!! They’re cancelled!!! I loved Killer Women and now am loving Forever. I would really hate to see it cancelled. With so many of us viewers using DVR’s these days, how do they know how many viewers are really watching these shows? I record every show I watch, and then watch them at my convenience and fast forward through the aggravating commercials. I just don’t see how ratings can be accurate these days.
The only ratings that count are “Live” viewing and the amount of 18-49 demo watching live. It’s the advertising revenue that pays the networks for the show so if you watch via DVR, skipping the commercials, or VOD without commercials the advertisers don’t care about those viewers at all since you’re not viewing what they are paying the networks to air, their commercials! If the ratings arent there for “live” viewing the show will be cancelled.
I want to like this show as I like the actors Alana, Judd, Joel, etc. I want programming based on high quality scripts and not zombies, vampires, comic book characters, over the top violence, sex and special effects. However, the writing for this show is a major let down. The plot lines are so predictable. There is no originality in the scripts at all. Other than the premise of the main character living forever this is pretty run of mill police procedural. Henry getting killed and reappearing in the water has already gotten old. Last nights episode where they did… Read more »
Next year I age out of the prime demographics. 🙂 BUT I agree with Snowdogmom. Last nights episode was poor in so many ways. Garza walking up the stairs where Henry was stabbed MULTIPLE times and there is no BLOOD? Really? The OTHER Henry walks in the antique shop through an UNLOCKED basement door? Really? What was the reason for the killer to tie up the Frenchman? and blindfold her? Taking the ledger and sticking it under your coat in an expensive antique store and NO ONE noticing? I have commented before, this show is a mash of other shows… Read more »
Unbelievable that studio heads are thinking of canceling this show. It’s a very good show!! But they have done it before with Journey Man, Amersterdam. Doesn’t anyone give a show a chance to find an audience? Think back to Cheers!!!!!!! Case closed..
YES, absolutely KEEP “FOREVER.” ABC, you have so little to chose from that if you cancel this one I know a lot of us will be finished w/you!
I love this show. It gets better each week. It is a little late for us old folks but we record it and watch it the next day.
I’d rather see Body of Proof come back. I really enjoyed that show.
I like Forever! Would hate to see it cancelled!
I love the premise of Forever! Unfortunately, I’m in bed at 9:00 (early riser). I do, however, catch it as soon as it’s available on Hulu. I would suggest putting it on Wednesday night either 7:00 or 8:00 (CST), as I don’t approve of some of the characters in The Mysteries of Laura OR Red Band Society. KEEP FOREVER!!!
I love this show so it will probably be cancelled. Heaven forbid we have a show on that is just a little bit cerebral. Sorry, just venting. But I guess that’s why they put this comment section on the website. Oh well, I guess I will have to move on to whatever show they decide to put in it’s place. I’ve really come to hate the big networks!
WHAT IS WRONG WITH ABC !?? YES, I’M SHOUTING ! A LOT OF US ARE ! WHY PUT A NEW SHOW INTO THE ‘SUICIDE SLOT ‘ IF THEY WANT IT TO SUCCEED?? OK, I’ll try to calm down now; but, I just don’t understand these network execs. A lot of us are watching but their damned 18-49 demographic folks AREN’T. That’s the only demo the sponsors are looking at or care about. Why not put it into one of the ‘plush’ slots and see how it does? If they check out F/B, they’ll see that almost ALL the posts are… Read more »
A lot of shows fail because the 18-49 demo isn’t watching but in the case of Forever no one is watching. I’m outside the 18-49 demo and I wanted to like this show because I like the actors in it but it’s too predictable and boring. The writing is just bad.
How can you say the writing is bad and that it is boring? Not enough gossip, backstabbing, and betrayal for you mom? There are shows for that type of writing and Forever isn’t it. Its a feel good show. Not real life grittiness or drama. The show is Sherlock Holmes and whatever show makes YOU feel at home. Castle being a previously used, but good example. You can’t watch a show to get what you hoped and wanted out of it from reading the summary or watching a pilot, but to appreciate it for what it is, which is a… Read more »
just as I loved killer women and body of proof, I love forever too. give it a chance!
Its the only thing that I watch on Tuesday’s! Please keep! I love the actors, the feel, and the storylines.
