Good news for fans of Great News. Today, NBC announced they’ve renewed the TV show for a second season, Variety reports.
From Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, the comedy follows Katie Wendelson (Briga Heelan), an ambitious cable news producer whose mother ends up interning at her workplace. The cast also includes Andrea Martin, John Michael Higgins, Nicole Richie, Adam Campbell, Horatio Sanz, and Tracey Wigfield
The renewal comes as a bit of a surprise. Great News just debuted in late April, but the ratings were middling from the start. Only a few episodes in, the show is averaging a .85 rating in the 18-49 demo and only 3.554 million viewers. While those numbers save the series from being NBC‘s lowest-rated new comedy (that title goes to Powerless), they do make it one of the lowest-rated new shows of the 2016-2017 season.
Nevertheless, NBC has decided to give Great News another chance. The network has ordered 13 episodes for season two of the series.
What do you think? Have you seen Great News? Will you watch season two?
I love this show! It was so funny I was laughing out loud by myself! I had to call my sister and tell her to watch it. She loves it too!
I have watched 9 shows and it’s just not funny. I love Tina Fey, but I’m not watching this show. Time wasted that I will never get back.
Horrible show! Will not watch! Who is making these decisions! Fire them!
Why? Show is awful. Ratings are awful. Somebody’s having sex with somebody?
Why on this green earth was this hot mess of garbage renewed? It’s not a funny show or is watched.
I think this show is horrible! I will not watch.
Awesome I like this show
I agree with the post by Megan. I am surprised great news was renewed before trial and error because it’s ratings are lower and Trial and error is unique and hilarious. Hopefully NBC will give them a second season also
I agree with the post by Megan. I thought Tyler neighbor would definitely be renewed before great news. It’s ratings are higher and it is unique and hilarious. Hoping to see gives them a second chance
I totally agree with the comment by Megan. Trial and error is unique, laugh out loud hilarious, and deserves a second season. Hope NBC gives them another chance
I can’t believe NBC renewed this show before renewing Trial & Error. It started off with bad ratings, and has only gotten worse. Trial & Error is smarter, funnier, better written, and better acted. Fingers crossed that NBC renews it as well.
every new show I happen to like gets cancelled, boo
