OWN is going back to church — for just one more season. The cable channel has announced it’s ordered a fifth and final season of the Greenleaf series for the 2020-21 season. The final episodes kick off sometime in June.
The dramatic TV show revolves around the unscrupulous world of the Greenleaf family and their sprawling Memphis megachurch. Scandalous secrets and lies are as numerous as the faithful. The cast includes Keith David, Lynn Whitfield, Lamman Rucker, Kim Hawthorne, Lovie Simone, Merle Dandridge, Desiree Ross, Deborah Joy Winans, Tye White, Rick Fox, Beau Bridges, and Oprah Winfrey.
The fourth season of Greenleaf on OWN averaged a 0.22 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.07 million viewers. Compared to season three, that’s down by 19% and 18%, respectively.
Here’s the fifth season renewal announcement:

What do you think? Are you a fan of Greenleaf? Will you watch season five? Are you sorry that there won’t be a sixth year?
I’m so sad to see it go, very creative and an amazing show.
Are we actually just getting the last 8 episodes filmed for season 4? Is it over because of the virus and production was shut down for season 5? I don’t think this was the plan and why not put it on hold until they could go back to work? Is it about money??
Sad to see this great show end. Unfortunately, most predominately black shows don’t make it for the long term. Hate to see it go but glad there will be a closing of the story line.
Sorry to see it go! Looked forward to a longer life for this show.
I have been waiting for the next season to begin and now you are saying this will be the last season for Greenleaf. Oprah, you have stopped following thru. What happened? Also where is Queen Sugar has this also been canned? I am going to stop watching anything that Own is producing except the short lived programs like the one Tommy Miles is on because every time a good series comes on OWN somehow it terminates after a few seasons. I’m done with OWN and you Oprah.
I knew they was going to do this every time i start watching a show that has 90% percent of the cast members black they wanna send the show on the chopping block SMDH the same thing happen to in living single a different world etc i can go on and on but this is not new and from the looks of it its never gonna stop RACISM
Sad the show want be returning. This is my favorite show.
It saddens me that this is going to be the final season .I look forward to each season waiting in anticipation of what’s going to happen with the characters.
I am a diehard Greenleaf fan. I am really disappointed to hear season 5 will be the last season as I think the show is one of the best shows not only on the OWN network , but on TV all together. I hope Oprah will reconsider her plan to end the show.
Yes, I will definitely watch! Sad to this will be the final season. Reconsider OWN!
Love this show and very disappointed it is ending. This and Queen Sugar are the only shows I watch on Own.
Huge fan! Looking forward to Season 5 and so sad it’s ending!
I wish there was one more season with Judge Lynn Toler or Viola Davis as an attorney.
Please consider continuing the show. All of the good OWN showed are being canceled. Very disappointed.
I am a huge fan. Watched all seasons. Everyone did good acting. My favorite is Grace. Hopefull Greenleaf will return after 5th season finale. But Oprah is the director. It’s up to her
