OWN is going back to church — for just one more season. The cable channel has announced it’s ordered a fifth and final season of the Greenleaf series for the 2020-21 season. The final episodes kick off sometime in June.
The dramatic TV show revolves around the unscrupulous world of the Greenleaf family and their sprawling Memphis megachurch. Scandalous secrets and lies are as numerous as the faithful. The cast includes Keith David, Lynn Whitfield, Lamman Rucker, Kim Hawthorne, Lovie Simone, Merle Dandridge, Desiree Ross, Deborah Joy Winans, Tye White, Rick Fox, Beau Bridges, and Oprah Winfrey.
The fourth season of Greenleaf on OWN averaged a 0.22 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.07 million viewers. Compared to season three, that’s down by 19% and 18%, respectively.
Here’s the fifth season renewal announcement:

What do you think? Are you a fan of Greenleaf? Will you watch season five? Are you sorry that there won’t be a sixth year?
Without Covid I never would have found this drama. Don’t watch much TV. I sobbed through the last episode it was so powerful. I’m a white female who not only was raised in church, but was also a elementary school teacher. Denominations are basically all the same, because humans are the same. We make mistakes, some what power, most do the best we can. I’ve had challenges in my own church and could relate to some of the issues. Well acted, mostly believable, fantastic wardrobe, and MUSIC!!!
I’m hooked on this series. I just found it and have binged watched ever since. I’m a Christian so I struggle with the blatancy of sin. But they are so real and continue to seek His will which I think is the best any of us can do. I actually want Biblical content and have never found it elsewhere. Perhaps I just don’t know the right channels. The way the writers use His Word is what attracts me the most. I too seek to utilize The Word in my everyday, minute-to-minute life. Something my family nor closest friend understand or… Read more »
I LOVE watching Greenleaf!! I hate to see this TV Series end. I agree with Delilah Winder below. This is a very good show and with everything coming out now, why end it? I thought the Charity character was a little snobbish and spoiled, crying for attention. But now I can’t wait to watch so I can see how it’s going to turn out with her and DeMars. The Actors (Writers) are really doing a great job and you don’t see that in a lot of other shows. I really don’t watch much TV anyway but when this comes on,… Read more »
I agree with the below c0mments questioning why it’s ending. Like a finely tuned “foreign vehicle” it’s just starting to break in its’ engine. It’s just starting to get “deeper” and cutting it off now????? Makes no sense… Can’t we keep quality around?
Amen
I am very disturbed to see this show ending. I wait all week for it to air. Stay up late while watching it over at midnight. One of the very few quality programming on OWN or any other network that holds my attention and anticipation. The acting is outstanding. Each character holding their own. Can you please reconsider. Would love to see it as a daily TV soap. The writers, producers, directors have done a fantastic job.
Please reconsider. We have so little quality programming to watch.
Amen
GreenLeaf will be sorely missed..there is no other show that isn’t afraid to tackle some of life’s victories and defeats. I hope there will be something that can fill the gaping hole that Green Leaf will leave behind.
Yes, I love Greenleaf and love to see a season6
Why is this coming to an end. The actors are unbelievably great one is better than the other. The storyline gets better and better has me on the edge of my seat. While why can it not continue like some of the other soaps
I would love to see Greenleaf continue it does tackle Christianity issues that people are afraid to tackle. Oprah please become instrumental in bringing it back.
