What’s This TV Show About?
Streaming on the Netflix paid subscription platform, The Last Kingdom stars Alexander Dreymon, David Dawson, Emily Cox, Ian Hart, Tobias Santelmann, Thure Lindhardt, Millie Brady, Alexandre Willaume, Julia Bache-Wiig, Joseph Millson, and Peter McDonald. An adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s novel series, The Saxon Stories, the historical drama follows Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Dreymon), the son of a 9th Century Saxon nobleman. After killing his father, Danish invaders kidnap the boy and he is raised by their warlord, Ragnar. Years later, when Ragnar is killed, Uhtred vows to avenge him, even as he returns to Bebbanburg to claim his birthright.

Telly’s Take
Unless Netflix decides to release streaming “ratings” it is always difficult to gauge the success of streaming TV shows, like The Last Kingdom. So, let’s look at what we do know. Netflix became a co-producer after the first season ran on BBC Two in UK and BBC America in the US. And in the US, the second season will have its first run on Netflix, leaving BBC America out of the picture. They must have some faith in the project. Provided the show continues to do well in both the UK and in the international markets that get the series via Netflix, I suspect The Last Kingdom will be renewed for season three. 9/26/17 update: Though a season three renewal hasn’t been announced, there have been reports of season three casting and filming.

Hooked… love it!
I am disabled and watch alot of tv. By far, The Last Kingdom is the best series to hit modern tv! Not only do you have spectacular visuals, but there is top notch acting. Especially the main character, Uhtred. He is handsomely played!! Please continue this series, it’s far better than HBO Show, Game of Thrones! 100% better! At least, finish the stories of books. Hats Off for BBC for such a great entertaining “documentary”. PLEASE SERIES CONTINUED

They should definitely renew The Last Kingdom! It is riveting and engaging show high production quality, great actors and realistic costumes and sets / locations. This is one of the few shows I actually watch, rather than just have running in the background while I do other things.

They should renew. It is intense and riveting. Very well written and acted and it would be a shame to not see the story through to the end. Perhaps it Netflix slowed down production on so many new shows they could continue production and promotion of one’s worth watching.

My husband and I started watching one rainy weekend. We finished the season without realizing we had done so. So we moved on the season 2 and completed it within a couple of days also. Told my friends about it and they watched both seasons. While telling them how good it was, I needed more, so I went back and watched both seasons again. WE NEED MORE…………
