A political thriller, Madam Secretary stars Téa Leoni, Tim Daly, Sara Ramirez, Željko Ivanek, Keith Carradine, Sebastian Arcelus, Patina Miller, Geoffrey Arend, Erich Bergen, Kathrine Herzer, Wallis Currie-Wood, and Evan Roe. The drama follows the shrewd, determined Elizabeth McCord (Leoni). As U.S. Secretary of State, she battles office politics, while driving diplomacy and negotiating global deals.
Elizabeth was once a CIA analyst, who exited that post for ethical reasons. She later returned to public life, at the request of President Conrad Dalton (Carradine). He values her apolitical leanings, knowledge of the Middle East, flair for languages, and unconventional thinking. Elizabeth is married to Henry (Daly), a former theology professor who is now an intelligence operative. Together, they’re bringing up three children, which can really test her diplomatic skills.
The fifth season of Madam Secretary averaged a 0.56 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.41 million viewers. Compared to season four, that’s down by 9% and 12%, respectively.
Out of the 26 scripted CBS TV shows of the 2018-19 season, Madam Secretary is in 24th place in the demo and 18th place in total viewership.

I cannot tell you how thrilled I am. Finally sense prevails, with a show worthy of the accolade as successor of West Wing being continued. Easily beats such tripe as endless so called reality TV shows which always, always, result in me reverting to recordings or DVDs. Go Elizabeth McCord, and Tea Leoni. We are thrilled that Madam Sefretary has been renewed. We are hoping this great show continues on and transitions into “Madam President” for the following 8 years! Excellent work cast, crew and writers; and thank you for the 5 years of intelligent and thoughtful entertainment.

Used to really like this show, but stopped watching it this season because it became another one of those shows that was all about pushing agendas. I watch TV for entertainment, not to be bashed over the head with Hollywood’s ideology.
I’m looking forward to seeing season 6 and more. The series is clever, entertains but at the same time educate us of a political system I’m not familiar to and might share similar values.
