To no surprise, The CW has cancelled their remake of Melrose Place after just one season and 18 episodes.
The new Melrose Place revolves around the same apartment complex as the 1990s original but largely focuses on a new group of characters. The cast includes Katie Cassidy, Stephanie Jacobsen, Jessica Lucas, Michael Rady, Shaun Sipos, Colin Egglesfield, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, Nicholas Gonzalez, Victor Webster, and Brooke Burns. Appearances by actors Thomas Calabro, Laura Leighton, Heather Locklear, Josie Bissett, and Daphne Zuniga help kept ties to the original alive.
In September, despite a lot of promotion, the first episode attracted a small 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demo and 2.31 million viewers. The numbers fell after that and never came close to even matching the premiere’s. The April 4th episode hit a season low, with a horrific 0.4 rating in the demographic and only .86 million viewers.
Even for The CW, the new Melrose Place’s ratings were absolutely terrible. Though the last episode of the season left many storylines up in the air, there was no way that it was going to be coming back.
Well, the network made it official this week. Melrose Place has been cancelled and won’t be returning for season two.
What do you think? Why didn’t this version catch on? Was it a bad idea from the start? Would it have survived if Heather Locklear signed on at the beginning or was including original characters part of why it failed?

I was shocked when I didn’t see Melrose Place on the line-up this year. I was a big fan of the original series and I admit it took me a couple of episodes of the new series to become dedicated…but I am. I love this show and looked forward to it weekly. Please bring it back!!!! PS – I love the new 90210 also – don’t cancel that one!!!

Men i was barely looking for when was the new season going to be I was going threw Supernatural, Smallville, and Melrose place where the only shows I liked watching. Im mad you should of give people chance to watch it I told my sisiter about it and she was excited about the show it did grab peoples attention but men really seriously they had good charecters in here everybody was prety the guys and grils were hot men what the hell you dont get that anywhere men hate it
What a dumb decision on the networks part. It was a great season 1. I en joyed it. It’s a lot better than 90210….That’s terrible.
Hopefully a different network will pick it up???

I just read about 4 pages of peoples comments saying BRING MP BACK!!! If not you CW, clue in other networks, people will watch this show and bring you mega $$$!!! We want it back…you made a rash decision to cancel the show…swallow your pride and make it happen people!
Wow, I’m really disappointed…I knew something was up when Katie Cassidy showed up on Gossip Girl – which is really just a plus for GG ; ) But what I don’t get, how did 90210 stay on with it’s terrible story lines, terrible characters and terrible acting…the premiere was a bore and it just plain sucks…I think MP should get another shot, it was getting really juicy towards the end of Season 1…has so much more potential than 90210!

I loved Melrose Place and 90210 but I preferred MP a lot more mainly cause it was less teenage angst and I was loving the story hopefully when Supernatural and Smallville end it might come back
I absoultly love Melrose Place!!!!!!!!!! I can’t believe that it is not returning!!!!! The show was fantastic, I tuned in every week to see what happened next. I will miss everyone on the show. The best show stopper was when Laura opened the door to Dr. Mancini. Disapointed in Kernersville NC!!!!!
