NBC has decided to bring their freshman drama, Parenthood, back for a second season.
Parenthood follows the joys and challenges of the Braverman family from Northern California. The large cast includes Lauren Graham, Peter Krause, Craig T. Nelson, Bonnie Bedelia, Mae Whitman, Miles Heizer, Erika Christensen, Sam Jaeger, Dax Shepard, Joy Bryant, Monica Potter, Sarah Ramos, and Max Burkholder.
The show got off to a positive start in early March with a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demo and 8.1 million viewers. The numbers fell to a 2.6 and 6.1 million viewers the following week and dropped even further in week three.
These past few weeks though, Parenthood seems to have settled in to a 2.5 rating and about 6.3 million viewers. That typically translates into Parenthood either sitting in second place or tying for first with CBS’ The Good Wife in the demo.
NBC says that the drama appeals to a high percentage of households with incomes over $100,000 in the key demo and adds about 30% more audience when the time-shifted viewing is figured in. Considering the rest of NBC’s schedule, it’s no surprise that they’ve renewed Parenthood for another season.
The peacock network will announce its 2010-11 schedule on May 17th. Its expected that the Parenthood will return in the fall (rather than mid-season) and keep its current timeslot.
What do you think? Are you glad that Parenthood has been renewed for a second season?

Love it! I look forward to Tuesday nights, just me and Parenthood. I haven’t been this hooked on a show since ER!
this is such a great show, glad its been renewed but who knows how long NBC will want to keep it, they have a record for canceling shows pretty often >=\
Please keep this show going….and Mercy!
Thank you so much for keeping Parenthood in the fall. I love this show! It brings me to tears every week. Keep up the great writing and story lines…please bring back the teacher!!
YES Thank you NBC A smart adult show,, Love Lauren Graham!!!!
Yes! I really love the show. It’s taken a few episodes to get to know the characters but it’s worth it.
It’s just too bad that it’s on Tuesday night… everything I like is on Tuesday with only one exception. Wish they would have put it on any other night.
I love this show! It’s relevant and chock-full of great storylines and actors. I was a huge fan of the original movie and couldn’t imagine it being improved upon or equalled, but the few storyline changes they’ve made have actually added interesting elements. I love how they wrap each ending so warmly… feels similar to tucking in your kids at night. I am thrilled they’re keeping it and hope it’s around for a very long time.
A great show,so true to life. Love the drama mixed with a laugh.looking forward to the new season.
Best show on television…unfortunately, it’s on against another great show, The Good Wife. I wish they would spread the good shows around more, because most of the the time there’s nothing worth watching!
Totally excited for a new season – this show is truly wonderful with such an amazing cast – very smart and very real – plus it’s the only show that my wife and I both love!
Great Show…wonderful writing! Glad NBC decided to do something smart for a change!
