What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the History cable channel, the Project Blue Book TV series stars Aidan Gillen, Michael Malarkey, Neal McDonough, Michael Harney, Laura Mennell, and Ksenia Solo. The show is inspired by the personal experiences of Dr. J. Allen Hynek (Gillen), a brilliant college professor. He was recruited by the U.S. Air Force to spearhead the Project Blue Book clandestine operation. He’s partnered with Air Force Captain Michael Quinn (Michael Malarkey). In season two, they quest for the truth and delve deeper into themes of global conspiracy, look at how UFOs have impacted the evolution of the nation’s military practices and technology and lean into the nostalgia of the 1950s.

The second season of Project Blue Book averaged a 0.21 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.30 million viewers. Compared to season one, that’s down by 32% in the demo and down by 22% in viewership. Find out how Project Blue Book stacks up against other History TV shows.
Project Blue Book has been cancelled, so there will not be a third season. Could this series be revived someday?
Telly’s Take
Will History cancel or renew Project Blue Book for season three? The channel has very few original scripted series so it’s hard to know how good the ratings have to be to earn a renewal. Last year, it was History’s highest-rated scripted series and, though the numbers are down, it’s still doing well. I think it will be renewed. I’ll update this page with breaking developments. What do you think? Were you hoping that the Project Blue Book TV show would be renewed for a third season? Are you sorry that History cancelled this TV series, instead?
One of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time. Everyone I know is talking about Project Blue Book. The cast, everything is remarkable and exciting. Please please make another season of Project Blue Book
We love Project Bluebook! We hope there will be a Season 3 but only if it is still based on Hynek’s notes surely he has enough material for more! Hands down our favorite show and have not missed an episode. Keep up the fantastic work History Channel!!!
I hope that history channel decides to renew for a third season the show is a great show and I honestly would be pretty sad if they cancelled it
I’m very surprised to see the ratings have dropped for Project Blue Book for season 2 so far. I’m enjoring season 2 as much as I did season 1. I admit there was 1 episode I wasn’t very fond of. That was the episode of week 3/11. But this series is really fantastic. Please tune in and watch it. If you’ve been studying UFO’s and aliens like I have for the last 30 years, then you will really love it. And I can tell you after 30 years of research, that much of what is shown in this series, is… Read more »
Great show, very cerebral !
Please do not cancel project Blue Book, all my friends and people at work watch this program religiously! We are all looking forward to season 3. It’s absolutely my favorite program. Thanking you in advance Rochelle and Friends
Not since The X~files has there been a TV series this good. And based on ACTUAL PEOPLE AND FACTS within our secret government. Regarding this subject matter. So that all said i truly hope the executives who control this show renew it for a 3rd season. After all you simply cannot condense ALL of J. Allen Hynek’s work with blue book into 2 TV seasons. That would be a grave misjustice in my humble opinion.
We, my husband and I, love this show….We live in SW Colorado, we have seen things, people wouldn’t believe. We live in the country and are amateur astronomers, usually out at the observatory with the telescope!! Please renew this program for next yr. Thank you and we’ll be watching tonight!!
I enjoy watching Project Blue Book and Season Two is better than Season One. That being said, I hope the creative talent behind the show will continue to bring forward more episodes so that the discussions continue. You have put together a fabulous cast and you are showing up all the other networks. So please, renew for Season Three.
A very fascinating insight into the possibility of extraterrestrials and the unexplained, mysterious flying craft in our atmosphere! I love this series, and some of the limited answers that are given to the perplexing anomalies seen and reported by countless, logical people over the years! The acting is brilliant and the stories are reminiscent from the time of my youth, when I had read about or heard about flying saucers and alien abductions, now recreated through the visual wonders of CGI! I am hoping that they do an episode about the famous Rex Heflin photographs! I’ll keep watching because it… Read more »
I grew up with the BLUE BOOK around my house. It was fascinating, just like this TV show. All the characters are really good. I’ll be watching all the seasons that they allow to be produce.
That must have been extremely exciting for you…!!! How truly awesome and lucky you were.
This is once again, a GREAT TV Series, but one that likely doomed, because the powers that that be in entertainment, have a huge track record of wiping out great shows, especially the sci fi, Science, and unknowns types of shows. Who can forget the infinite wisdom of the studios as they cancelled the original Star Trek?
I SINCERELY hope your wrong…!!! But i have a funny feeling you might be right due to past history with great shows like this.
It’s one of my favorite shows on TV. I never miss an episode.
I’m 67 years old, & have read extensively on the subject over the years… Fascinating topic, keep it going!!! …….
Never made it through the first episode… so boring.
I sincerely think you should have given Project Blue Book another chance. I did my final term paper in high school on UFOs fact or fiction using Project Blue Book as a guide. The cast is magnificent and the storylines are exactly as portrayed in the book. Really believe if you would go back and try it again at with an open mind and follow on through the first series you would be hooked
Exactly. Every one in the cast is so great to watch. It is too bad that intelligent shows don’t last very long.
