Annie Bello won’t get to fight for new causes in the 2021-22 television season. ABC has cancelled the Rebel TV series so there won’t be a second year.
A drama, the Rebel TV show is inspired by the life of activist Erin Brockovich today and stars Katey Sagal, John Corbett, James Lesure, Lex Scott Davis, Tamala Jones, Ariela Barer, Kevin Zegers, Sam Palladio, and Andy Garcia. Annie “Rebel” Bello (Sagal) is a blue-collar legal advocate without a law degree. She’s a funny, messy, brilliant, and fearless woman who cares desperately about the causes she fights for and the people she loves. When Rebel applies herself to a fight she believes in, she will win at almost any cost.
Airing on Thursday nights, the first season of Rebel averages a 0.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.23 million viewers in the live+same day ratings.
The cancellation doesn’t come as much of a surprise. The series follows Grey’s Anatomy on the schedule but performs poorly in the ratings and loses a lot of its lead-in audience. It’s one of the lowest-rated freshman series on the network this season.

So sick of all the reality and game shows on. We need more thought-provoking dramas like Rebel and ABC cancels it? Not very smart. Very disappointed in the executives at ABC.

I love this show and hope you reconsider. It is astounding how networks decided to keep shows that have no redeeming value whatsoever and they cancel a show that has a premise of fighting for the greater good and doing the “right thing” against corporate greed. I am so disappointed in ABC decisions.
I am shocked and disappointed that this series is being canceled. I have no idea what drives a TV executives decisions but clearly some intelligent, adult entertainment that carries an excellent cast and storyline has merit. What do you expect the over 49 group to watch?
This show should be renewed. It’s a truly grown-up drama with clever dialogue, believable characters, literate writing and brilliant acting. It also makes a few important serious points in amongst the entertainment.
Why would ABC cancel what is clearly the best show of the season? I don’t understand what drives their decisions… this is by far our favorite series in many years. Great cast and storyline. Please reconsider and return Rebel for a second season.
Rebel is an excellent new show! Her interracial family is such an interesting and unique composition. It makes you stop and think about the relationship of the characters as they interact. Yes to excellent acting and superb writing. The surprises in the weekly progress with the legal case really makes you think and listen carefully. Please keep this show! I look so forward to it each week. We need to keep Rebel and have more shows of its quality.
I don’t understand the reasoning on why the good shows are being canceled! This is a shame! I looked forward to watching Rebel every week Katy Segal is one of the best out there what are you thinking? Goodbye to another great show! Thanks Guys!

Yes, very disappointed. I stopped watching TV prime time a long time ago because they disgust me be I do like Rebel. Slight difference than all the rest. Good luck to all cast and crew members. It’s tough competing against junk.
This had become our favorite show of the season, but it seems like our favorite shows often get cancelled … what does that tell us? Very disappointed and wonder who makes these decisions!
The one show that has a chance of being long running, was cut down, I am very sad and angry. Give it more time. The cast is great and the story line is good. Who makes these idiotic decisions, and don’t tell me ratings.
I am both sad and angry that “Rebel” was cancelled mid-season. This drama has an amazing premise, compelling storylines and a top notch cast. ABC, please reconsider and give it time to find it’s audience!
