9-1-1, the new first responder procedural, has done well enough in the ratings to earn an early season two renewal from FOX. Now the network is introducing The Resident TV show. Is a medical procedural just what the doctor ordered? Will The Resident be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.
A drama, The Resident stars Matt Czuchry, Emily VanCamp, Manish Dayal, Moran Atias, Merrin Dungey, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Melina Kanakaredes, and Bruce Greenwood. The FOX TV series centers on Dr. Devon Pravesh (Dayal), a newly minted resident, as well as Senior Resident Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Czuchry), and their colleagues at the Chastain Park Memorial Hospital. Although its motto is, “Committed to excellence,” the hospital is staffed with human beings, and humans are flawed. Now that Devon is on the other side of the institution’s velvet ropes, Conrad wants him to understand the reality of medicine and its delivery.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/15 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like The Resident TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season on FOX?
5/7/18 update: FOX has renewed The Resident for a second season. Details here.
Love watching this show. Please renew for a second season.
Yes please renew the Resident!! Love show and cast!
It deserves a 2nd season. It is entertaining, and probably a glimpse at what really does go on in the for profit medical community. 2 Thumb’s up!
This show gets better week by week! I love it so much! Who cares if it’s “realistic”…I want to be entertained and it delivers! I hope for many more seasons! Renew now please!!!
This is a fantastic show. Medically correct, feasible or not, it’s great and I look forward to it each week. Conrad is eye candy too. Please keep it on for Season Two. Network shows are mostly bad – ABC, CBS, NBC. I LOVE THIS SHOW! Gets better every week!
Yes please give this show the go ahead, its great and very entertaining I love it.so many people have said that it’s not realistic enough that it’s not what a hospital is like at all,,,,and I’m happy with that because if you really want to see how sad and messed up in the Hospital’s it is try spending your days in Children’s Hospital where your heart breaks at just about every turn, there’s so much pain behind those walls. But there’s is Happiness there also.the Children don’t give up and neither do the doctors. Is that what these critics want to watch?… Read more »
The show is great. It should have a season 2 and I hope there will be season 2.
I like this show, especially Emily VanCamp playing Nurse Practitioner, Nic. I hope there will be a season 2.
Yeah she’s a smokeshow
The idea is great (A resident doctor with a passion out to prove something), but they need to stay away from topics that are so unrealistic that it becomes painful to watch. Up-coding??? really?? So illegal to do let alone encourage employees to do or have flyers laying around the hospital promoting the idea. That whole plot is laughable! And a Billing Manager ordering medical tests!?! I’m so sure. Get a grip, this crap makes me cringe. Had high hopes for this show…what a let down.
It’s meant to entertain…and it does! Can’t say I know of any medical dramas that are accurate and realistic. Just relax and enjoy the show!
I like this show a lot. The acting is good. Matt played Carey in The Good Wife, another favorite of mine. I can’t speak to the accuracy of the medical information, but the show seems to hit on many current hot topics, such as, the for-profit healthcare system and immigration.
Love the show. It’s grittier than the hospital shows of the past.
And I also love reviewers who write about disliking any tv program because it’s not realistic. Do they actual want to watch a realistic doctor show? Give me more Waiting Room scenes please! Take two antihistamines and reschedule a follow up in three weeks? Yes please, give me more of that!
People are ridiculous
Yes i like this show. It should have a season 2
Please keep this show on! Matt Czuchry is a great actor and great on the eyes for this mature lady:) Thank you!
The promos were enough to turn me off. Nothing realistic as to how residents work/act, sadly.
The pilot was quite enjoyable. I enjoy medical dramas and this one is no exception, can’t wait to see what’s to come from the first season.
