9-1-1, the new first responder procedural, has done well enough in the ratings to earn an early season two renewal from FOX. Now the network is introducing The Resident TV show. Is a medical procedural just what the doctor ordered? Will The Resident be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.
A drama, The Resident stars Matt Czuchry, Emily VanCamp, Manish Dayal, Moran Atias, Merrin Dungey, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Melina Kanakaredes, and Bruce Greenwood. The FOX TV series centers on Dr. Devon Pravesh (Dayal), a newly minted resident, as well as Senior Resident Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Czuchry), and their colleagues at the Chastain Park Memorial Hospital. Although its motto is, “Committed to excellence,” the hospital is staffed with human beings, and humans are flawed. Now that Devon is on the other side of the institution’s velvet ropes, Conrad wants him to understand the reality of medicine and its delivery.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/15 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like The Resident TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season on FOX?
5/7/18 update: FOX has renewed The Resident for a second season. Details here.
Needs a better medical expert consultant. The nurse has a BSN, performs nursing duties, follows doctor orders, hangs IV’s, etc and assesses patient’s response to treatment to the physician. That is the role of an RN, not a Nurse Practitioner, which the nurse is called on the show. A Nurse Practitioner, assesses and treats patients, has an MSN or Doctorate degree. She orders medication and treatments, which are carried out by nurses. She does not take orders from physicians, but collaborates in difficult cases.
Thank you,
Patricia

I love this show and am looking forward to season 2 so I hope it’s renewed. I like the conflict it shows between the doctors and administration and I especially like the character of Dr. Okafor.
i loved the resident too much , it is realistic a lot especially i am a dr and i have seen exactly the same minds of greed drs , amazing drs , genius ones …

I love the Resident. Keep it going for another season.
Great show, people say it is not realistic, but I bet their is a lot of medical corruption out there that is not talked about..very entertaining
This show gets better every week – please renew for season two
Please keep this show! Love it! I watch it on Hulu!!!
Great show , Please renew
Show is intense!!!…keep the episodes coming
100% for a 2nd season! Conrad ( Matt C) is a FOX & even sexier when he stands up for what he believes in. I love a little “bad boy” streak in a man! I feel there’s more truth in this show depicting For Profit Healthcare than many of us in that line of work really want to admit. It’s an ugly truth. I love the complexity of all the staff’s individual roles. I also LOVE the Bad Ass Dr. Mina Okafor played by Shaunette Wilson! Now that’s a positive woman role model.
Emily Van Camp is better. Just sayin.
