Shameless has just ended its tenth season on Showtime, and the series is coming back for one more season. The executive producer of the series, John Wells, spoke about ending the series with season 11. A premiere date has not yet been set for that season.
When asked about ending the Showtime series, Wells said the following to TV Line about Shameless:
“Well, I’ve always said I would do it forever. We didn’t actually have any discussions with the cast about doing more beyond Season 11, because Showtime, who have been tremendous, terrific partners, told us that they were ready to have us wrap it up. They’ve been such great partners. As sad as that made me… We tried to get the show on the air for seven years. So the fact that they stepped up and supported us for what will now be 11 seasons is a miracle, and it’s been a great, great partnership, working with them and with Warner Bros. I would have kept making it forever. I’m not sure if anybody else was crazy enough to keep doing that with me.”
Wells also spoke about the possibly of Emmy Rossum returning before the end of the series. She left the series at the end of season nine. Could fans see her back on the series for the finale? He said:
“I would love to have had her back the entire time, and she knows that, though. But she’s off doing other things. I’m very hopeful that her schedule, which is very busy because she’s wonderfully talented and doing many things, will align with our being, at least, able to get her back for a little bit. But if not, it won’t be because she doesn’t love us. It’ll just be because she’s got too much else that she’s committed to, which is exciting and great, and we’re all happy for her. I’ve told her all along that I hope that when we end [the show] that it’ll work out, that she can come back, and at least do a little bit for us.”
For season 10, the series has averaged 841,000 viewers an episode.

The show has been wonderful and I would love to see it continue. However, I think it would be hard to deny that season 10 was its weakest to date. The show just packed in too many characters in each episode, and most of them were rather unlikable. The storyline of Debbie being gay combined with Ian and Mickey’s battling relationship became surreal after a while, and Bill Macy’s portrayal of Frank had the character graduate from being an amusing louse to just a flat-out jerk. Netflix has been sucking since Disney+ came out. Looks like it’s you and me Amazon Prime.
I had never watched an episode of shameless until a commercial came on about Ian and Mickey fussing over who was gonna stab someone before the other in jail. So I watched that episode and had to start from the very first episode i spent a.few days binge watching it and fell in love with it. I cant believe the show will possibly be ending this summer with season 11. I’m gonna miss watching this show so I will definitely be watching the old episodes. I hope it doesn’t end after the 11th season. We all love that show. My family and I always eat dinner clean up and get our showers and get our drink or what ever we need to settle in for our favorite show.. SHAMELESS.
No one talks and if anyone needs a bathroom break or the phone rings etc. We pause the show..

Good riddance, it was about time that it’s ending. Started to really suck after 4 great seasons.
Keep the show going forever. Don’t cancel it just because. There’s sooo much still going on with all members of the show. It can’t end in 12 more episodes
I am extremely sad that we only have one more season of Shameless!! We finally got our favorite couple back together and married. However, the show doesn’t appear to be written by the same writers. It’s been different the last couple of seasons… not being anywhere near as Shameless as it was in the beginning but S10 finale was great!! I’ll definitely miss this crazy show and all of the GREAT actors we’ve enjoyed watching for 10 seasons!!

I would be so upset if the show ended… They still have so many different ways they could go with the show…with everyone starting their own lil families! Id really love to follow Tami and Lip and Baby Fred of course! And Debbie and Frannie….Ian and Mickey and maybe Carl and ?Julia? Haha and Kev and V …. Like sooo many diff possibilities! Spin offs would be great if possible. Just praying its not over forever! What is the last episode for season 10? I just watched the one with Ian and Mickey getting married …was that the season finale?

I love shameless it is absolutely my favorite show of all time and am extremely disappointed that the show will be ending after its 11th season…this show has continuously kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to see whats going to happen next and it has never disappointed…hopefully netflix will pick it up so the show can continue on i hope
