What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the FOX television network, the So You Think You Can Dance TV show is hosted by Cat Deeley. After a three-year absence, the show introduces a new judging panel with Stephen “tWitch” Boss, Matthew Morrison, and JoJo Siwa. The program features highly skilled dancers between the ages of 18 and 30, showcasing their talents in various dance styles, including contemporary, tap, hip-hop, ballroom, animation, breaking, and more. Those who are selected to move on to the SYTYCD studio work with world-renowned choreographers and compete each week in a variety of styles, with new twists and turns introduced into the competition.
Season 17 Ratings
The 17th season of So You Think You Can Dance averaged a 0.29 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.55 million viewers. Compared to season 16 (which aired in 2019), that’s down by 38% in the demo and down by 24% in viewership in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. There can be other economic factors involved in a show’s fate, but typically the higher-rated series are renewed and the lower-rated ones are cancelled. Will FOX cancel or renew So You Think You Can Dance for season 18? The show has been off the air for three years so a big drop in the traditional ratings is expected (more people begin streaming or watching delayed content each year) and it hadn’t been drawing big ratings prior to the pandemic-induced hiatus anyway. My sense is that FOX will keep it going, despite low ratings, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if they cancelled it either. I’ll update this page with breaking developments. This show is absolutely what we need to celebrate dance as art. There is no other show like this on television. The quality of choreography and dancers themselves is par excellente. We need this show back. Having Nigel back is also a gain.
Absolutely keep, just make it not voting in-house and good judges. Needs to be longer then last year!
Please keep So You Think You Can Dance on TV. People need shows where they can see others striving for goals and dreams. As well as people need to be able to be ones who want to reach those goals and dreams. America has so many problems that we are facing that we need these positive influences so badly. Our TV is filled with so much negativity every hour. Absolutely. America needs to feel good about life. This show does this, promotes hope and achievement and fantastic entertainment! Bring it back! Who is responsible for its leaving us?
I’ll go back to 2005 onward for the authentic SYTYCD auditions. Those early auditions are the gold that gets us hooked emotionally on the dancers. Those quiet auditoriums of hopeful dancers and the expert judges. That has been replaced with an Americas Got Talent vibe. Every contestant received huge ovations in this new format. The judges weren’t expert dance instructors or choreographers. The teeny bopper Siwa was annoying and over-enthused like the AGT judges. Matt was too poised like this was a role. I love so you think you can dance. Jojo needs to go. Gonna miss Twitch breaks my heart. Don’t cancel the show there isn’t any good dance shows on at all. I’ll be very disappointed if cancelled.

I agree that Nigel and Mary really make the show worth watching. JoJo is not genuine and I couldn’t stand to watch or listen to her.
I did not watch this season, after 1st show. UNBEARABLE!
With out Nigel, it just isn’t the show I love. Jojo is not suited for this show.
If Nigel comes back, I’ll watch next season, if not, no point of renewing.
SYTYCD is a sad shadow of what it used to be. Dancers are eliminated based on an audience vote? How is that America’s favorite dancer. Not all the dancers they picked were the best dancers that auditioned, seemed like they were picked based not on talent but on the judges feeling sorry for them. It was sad to watch. The judges other than Twitch were more annoying than helpful, although Twitch even seemed to be more about making all of the contestants feel good instead of giving constructive criticism. They should have just let the program die 3 years ago.
This show is amazing! So many different genres of dance are performed, and a lot of training goes into it. I do miss Nigel as a judge. Leah Remini does add much in her critique’s, but JoJo and Twitch know exactly what they’re talking about. I find this show moving & good for my soul
Needs Nigel. Not a fan of JoJo – she’s so loud. Twitch is ok. Don’t even know who the other guy is. Too bad. They lost my neighbor and I.
Jo Jo is a know it all loud mouth. Leah has no dance experience. Get rid of both of them and get someone who has more knowledge of dance
