Why does Supernatural have to end? Recently, stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles explained why the CW TV show is ending after season 15, TVGuide reports.
The long-running drama series centers on the paranormal adventures of the Winchester brothers, Dean (Ackles) and Sam (Padalecki). The cast also includes Misha Collins and Alexander Calvert.
During a recent fan convention, Padalecki and Ackles revealed the decision to end Supernatural was a “community” choice, not a cancellation:
We wanted to communicate to you guys this was a community decision. The network and the studio did not say, ‘Hey, guys, get outta here! You’re done.'”
Ackles expanded:
It wasn’t an easy decision. It was months and months, if not years, of discussion between he [Padalecki] and I, between the rest of the cast, between the crew, between our writers, between our producers, between the studio, between the network. Nobody wanted to see this show fizzle out. I think that it was everyone wanting to do the biggest service to the show that we could by going out strong. It just seemed like the writing was kind of on the wall as to when that was happening. Everybody kind of felt that it was coming soon, and so it was just taking that leap of faith of going like, ‘Well guys, let’s get out the paint and paint that finish line because what we’ve accomplished is unlike any other.'”
Supernatural‘s 15th and final season will debut on The CW during the 2019-2020 season. You can take a look behind the scenes at the season 14 finale below:
What do you think? Are you a big fan of Supernatural? How do you think the series should end?
I wish it was not ending. I love the show. On every episode there has not been one repeat scenario. The writers are doing a fantastic job.
I hate to see this show end. Please do not kill the brothers. Hoping for a special every now and again with the brothers. I would prefer to see the boys go after monsters like they did at the beginning of the series. I have been a fan from the beginning and introduced the series to the rest of my family who also became fans. Wishing the cast and crew the best and I am hoping that season 15 will not be a short one.
just keep making the show till season 20 🙂
its good to know AMANDA TAPPINGS is going to direct one show in season 15, SG, CLASS ACT AMANDA.!! & SGA.
I think sam and dean should be killedd by jack and get reunited with his mom and dad jack kills casteal and jack having to much power explodes and is reunited with sam and dean in heaven casteal is there too
I am going to miss the show i think that sam and dean gets killed by jack like his mother did and they are reunited with their mam and dad
I think they should have Sam and Dean walk into the bunker and Sam will start studying and Dean will pour a drink, kick his feet up on the table, then a spot light goes on Rob sitting in the shadows and he sings Fare the Well. Song ends, lights go out, and we hear the bunker door shut.
It’s a shame 🙁 they shouldn’t end it 🙁
Honestly everytime I hear about the show ending I tear up! I’ve watched almost all the episodes so many time, I can repeat along or know what line is coming next. To say I’ll miss it is an understatement. In the end I would love for them to flash forward & have families of their own, but that just doesn’t fit, a reunion in heaven with John, Mary, & Adam would be my wish! Going out on top, in the end is the ultimate goal!
All my family and me have watched the show from the beginning, We really love the show and will miss it, Its the best show on tv. Hope you change your mind but know its your decision. Wish everyone the best on future adventures. Thanks for making this show great and will miss it a lot.
I was horribly sad to read it will end. Though I was way late to the SN party, not watching until 9-12 reruns and an occasional marathon, after I retired early 6 years ago, I think it was the cleverest combination of storyline, sibling portrayal , humor, music EVER. Did I mention Humor? I mention it again.
Oh, I’m going to miss this show. But if it has to end… Sam and Dean are “retired”, married and with families of their own. One day, they go camping with their children and in the middle of the night they are murdered by the very creatures they hunted. Their children see this and start digging into their parent’s past. They find their grandfather’s journal along with all the other hunter tools. Que in Wayward Son, as they go off to hunt the creatures that killed their parents with Castiel watching over them. And we can have a new generation… Read more »
Great idea!
Isa, I too will miss the show. It was very entertaining to tune in each week to see what Sam and Dean was up to on their paranormal adventures and the details of your final screen about them retiring and starting a family makes sense but sometimes it’s best to end there. I personally feel there will never be another SPN like this.
I am very sad this is ending, it’s hard to let go of a show that sort of became a ‘family’ to so many people/fans. But I’ve been wondering for a while how many more ways Sam & Dean can save the world. What other big stories could they keep coming up with to keep it going? Or could they tone it back to like it was back in the beginning – more monsters of the week? There were a few things that never really followed through – with Chuck the prophet writing the “Winchester Gospels” when they were stopping… Read more »
All good things must come to an end. I hate to see it go but I am grateful for the long run that has been top notch most of the way. Season 6 was a struggle but after what season 5 brought us you had to expect a lull. Where would they take things now? Hasn’t it all been done? Evidently not as things got back on track in 7 and have been exceptional. Supernatural is one of the few shows I look forward to. I don’t watch tv to escape my life. I watch to be entertained. Well done… Read more »
I agree, I watch TV shows and movies mostly to be entertained! I certainly don’t watch to be lectured to like a lot of the new shows are doing. Supernatural has be entertaining most of the time, didn’t care for the character Metatron ,played by Curtis Armstrong, who I am not a fan of at all. Sorry to see the show come to an end.
KayB, I agree with you. I too did not like Metatron. I personally could not wait for his rein to end. He just didn’t fit in.
in S13E11 called Breakdown, the one where the monsters want to sell sam’s heart, the main monster says there are more monsters than dean and sam ever dreamed > “most monsters are as normal as your next-door neighbor and they need to eat.” and that was never addressed in any future episode. so what I want to see in S15 is the iconic MOTW episode every episode all the while dean and sam deal with their PTSD and have many brother melodrama moments beside Baby drinking a beer. And they just continue the family business, driving down crazy street and… Read more »
