If you’ve got a haunted house to sell, unfortunately, it looks like The Roman Agency has closed. The SurrealEstate TV series has been cancelled and won’t be returning for a second season, at least not on Syfy. The first season of 10 episodes finished airing in September.
A Canadian paranormal drama series, SurrealEstate stars Tim Rozon, Sarah Levy, Adam Korson, Maurice Dean Wint, Savannah Basley, and Tennille Read. The story follows an elite team of specialists at The Roman Agency who handle the cases no one else can — haunted and possessed houses that literally scare would-be buyers away. Researching, investigating, and “fixing” the things that go bump in the night, the team works to create closure (and closings) even as they struggle with demons of their own. Nick Roman (Rozon) is the agency owner and has gained a whispered reputation as someone who could sell the haunted houses that nobody else could. Susan Ireland (Levy) is an enormously successful realtor who doesn’t believe in ghosts or hauntings. Father Phil Orley (Korson) is the agency’s research specialist while August Ripley (Wint) specializes in technology, and Zooey L’Enfant (Basley) serves as the agency’s office manager. Meanwhile, Megan Donovan (Read) is a medical student who just inherited a house from her grandfather.
In the United States, the first season of SurrealEstate averaged a 0.06 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 315,000 viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. There can be other economic factors involved in a show’s fate, but typically the higher-rated series are renewed and the lower-rated ones are cancelled.
Series creator and showrunner George R. Olson broke the news that SurrealEstate had been cancelled on Twitter and noted that producers are trying to find the show a new home.
He wrote, “Hey folks. Sorry to tell you that we will not be moving forward with Syfy on Season Two of #SurrealEstate. But we have no intention of leaving Luke alone in a bowling alley when his mom is out there somewhere and mortgage rates are so reasonable. … We’re committed to finding a new home for #SurrealEstate, and if there’s one thing The Roman Agency knows about, it’s finding new homes. You can help us by keeping #SurrealEstate in your hearts, minds, tweets and posts. … Stay tuned. And thanks so much for believing in ghosts, demons, Roadies, LRG’s, Mumfords, low-maintenance composite decking and our little show.”
*Update: Syfy subsequently reversed its decision and ordered a second season of SurrealEstate.
Loved this show and lost are disappoint if it don’t come back find another station to have this great show on go to discover channel and your ratings we all bet will go way up the chart syfy always cancel a all the good show.
Sorry to hear cancelled…..Love this show……please find it a new home….
I miss the show. it became a favorite of mine after my other favorite show came to an end. I was desperately hoping this show would get a season 2. Now I’m desperately hoping Netflix will pick it up.
I watched this show from the beginning. I love it, story line was fresh, acting was very good. I don’t understand why this happened. I can say in my opinion it wasn’t published properly.
I stumbled in this show, and believe me when I say this i loved it. I binged watche it and I’m sad there is no season 2,I pray that it finds a new Home soon.
I found the show about mid-season and loved it. I’ve binge watched the first season a couple times since then.
A quick count of the shows that SyFy has cancelled that my family enjoyed (by no means a comprehensive list): Sliders, Tripping the Rift, Hollywood Treasure, Eureka, Haunted Collector, Being Human, Warehouse 13, Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files, Lost Girl, Defiance, Haven, Dominion, Dark Matter, The Expanse, Z Nation, Ghost Wars, Nightflyers, Killjoys, The Magicians, Wynonna Earp, and now SurrealEstate. But at least we can watch pro wrestling on a science fiction network????????????
I discovered this show late into the season. It was a show I enjoyed and made sure the DVR was set for each week. I hope it resurfaces again. Not many shows out there I take the time to watch.
I liked the show and never missed an episode at least give it another season, so many boring overated shows go on and on ,and reality shows go on, I never watch that crap…
Not much to watch anymore
I really enjoyed this show. The cast is phenomenal & the storyline had great potential to expand for another season for sure. Hope to see a season 2!! #surrealestate
My family loved the show – one of the best we’ve seen in years. Please find a new venue for season 2!
I really enjoyed this show. It should not have been canceled.
I really enjoyed SURREAL ESTATE and I’m so disappointed that it won’t be back – at least on SyFy. I hope to see Season 2 on one of the streaming services though (eternal optimist).
I was really sad to find out this interesting and fun show with a great cast of characters wasn’t going to continue. I actually didn’t realize it was Canadian because it was so good. Canadian shows aren’t always so high level, it was up there with shitts creek. I sincerely hope it is brought back on a streaming net work much like the expanse was.
Totally disappointed it was not renewed. It was a fun lighthearted horror series. Once again sci-fi disappoints me and canceling something that’s truly enjoyable. Maybe they should work on their marketing and time slots before they cancel series.
I couldn’t agree more, we need more great shows like sereal estate not less
