Amazon Studios has cancelled their plans for The After, a new TV series from the creator of The X-Files, Chris Carter.
Amazon ordered the series in March 2014 after viewers gave a strong reception to the show’s pilot. Of the decision, Roy Price, VP of Amazon Studios, said, “We have decided to not move forward with The After. We would like to thank Chris Carter, the phenomenal cast, crew and producers for all their efforts.”
The After revolves around eight strangers who must try to survive in a violent world that defies explanation. The ensemble cast of the pilot includes Adrian Pasdar, Sharon Lawrence, Jamie Kennedy, Aldis Hodge, Andrew Howard, Arielle Kebbel, Sam Littlefield, Louise Monot, and Jaina Lee Ortiz.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that plans for The After have been cancelled? Would you have watched the series?
I hope Netflix picks it up as well. The pilot was great and it had the makings of a terrific show. Why do so many good ones get passed over and many bad ones persist? This tops 90% of the other sci fi shows out there. Only the Walking Dead beats this one based on the pilot, but this one would reach a bigger audience.
I was looking forward to this show very upset it didn’t make it I hope they reconsider
I enjoyed the pilot.
I was really looking forward to the series.
Probably for the best, it was cliche ridden. I think people are desperate for any decent sci fi show. Man in the High Castle is that show, Amazon shouldn’t spend money on The After instead.
They choose to make other lame shows but passed on this one…this was a no brained.
I was just going to buy prime for this when i noticed in amazon comments about this being canceled
SO im going to wait to buy it now if any thing else come dam it
What the hell.. I almost bought Amazon Prime because of this Pilot.. i loved the concept. I really hope someone pick it up
Hilarious if Netflix picked it up…
I have to agree with some of you. I definitely enjoyed the pilot. I went to find the next episode only to learn that the show has already been canceled. I was really looking forward to it, am wondering if there is anyway we could petition for it’s air on another network-something? …
We not only have to discover the meaning behind their shared birthdays but the tattoos that appear on their skins and that “thing.”
….
Didn’t know anything of the pilot. Will have to seek it out and watch it. But… The After revolves around eight strangers who must try to survive in a violent world that defies explanation. That really is not a hook for me. Maybe I need to see the pilot though. 8 strangers have to survive in a violent world? From what? machines? animals? aliens? Other people? I hope not, because that means there are more than 8 people. What are you calling strangers? I mean I walk by hundreds of people a day on average. The majority of them are… Read more »
Maybe you should um…..see the show before responding. It’s hard to judge a show by it’s tagline
the people who actually watched the show seemed to like it, that should mean something
Agreed and agreed again…
I too thought it was an incredible pilot. What a shame and what a waste of time for those people who were in it. I was REALLY looking forward to answering the questions about their birthdays all being the same even though they Randomly came together. I was also looking forward to finding out the who what and why of it all! I really am disappointed this universe will not get to breathe and grow and will more than think twice now before watching one of these AMAZON “watch and vote for more” pilots I call them.
why all good sci-fi shows get canceled.
I watched the entire pilot and thought it was excellent. Chris Carter did a masterful storytelling and diresting job here.
The concept of a post apocalytic society with 8 people who are terrified during the final scene was well done.
I so very much hope that someone will possibly pick this project up. It’s worthy of a run.
I am gutted. That was one of the best pilots I have ever seen. I was looking forward to the actual show. Transparent was just the best show on anywhere, Motzart in the Jungle was also great. This could have been something special, none of the new batch of pilots was anything special. I hope someone else picks it up. Too bad Amazon.
I’m very disappointed that Amazon is not continuing with The After. I watched the first episode when they used us as guinea pigs. I enjoyed it a lot.
