TV show description:
On each episode of this reality series, two families are faced with a decision that could potentially alter their lives forever.
Hard-working American families who’ve been experiencing financial hard times are presented with a briefcase that contains a very large sum of money — $101,000. They must then make a difficult decision — do they keep all of the money for themselves, or do they give all or part of it to another family in need?
They have 72 hours to learn about the other family’s challenging circumstances and make their choice. What they don’t know is that the other family has received an identical briefcase with the same instructions. Each episode culminates with the reveal of each family’s decisions and viewers are then given an update on how the experience and/or the money has changed their lives.
Series Finale:
Episode #6 — Moyas/Vendely-Salgados
The Moya Family: Gabe is and insurance agent and wife Krystal is a stay at home mom. They have six children under the age of 10 and are high school sweethearts whose lives revolve around faith and family. The Moya’s finances hit rock bottom in 2009, but through all the hard times, they remain positive, feel blessed, and are determined to raise their children with strong faith.
The Vendely-Salgado Family: Amari is unemployed and Natalie is a medical assistant. They have three children, all seven and under. Amari and Natalie’s financial situation hit a rough patch when Natalie was laid off from her position as a medical assistant. She has since found another job, but the time unemployed in-between jobs took a toll on the family. In addition there will be extra expenses for Amari’s transition. He was born female, but after giving birth to two children and living as a woman for most of her adult life, he now lives as a man.
In the end, the Moyas give away $10k (keeping $91k) and the Vendely-Salgados give away $15k (keeping $86k).

Love the show please keep it on.
I just saw the show for the first time and it was with the transgender family and the Catholic family. It was disturbing to see how devotes catholics did not demonstrate the teachings of the lord. That the other couple did & demonstrated his word, compassion, non-judgement and the spirit of giving, overall love. If the Catholic couple truly new the gospel, god says “love thy self”, do not judge others, give of yourself and
Love everyone for we are all part of him! They may have prayed, but they didn’t listen.
I found the show to be inspiring. I can relate so well to the people struggling. We are a one income family of four. Initially, we choose this path because we wanted to homeschool our children. At first, we were doing “ok”, but we did not have any money left at the end of the month. Then, from 2005-2009, we went without A/C for 3 years because we could not afford to replace it. Some may think this is not a big deal, but living in south Texas, it can get very hot. In fact, I remember going outside to… Read more »
Please do not cancel, love this show. It shows people are still good and kind in this world and that gives us hope.
I love this show! Please bring on the next season!
I dislike those who have homes and cars while I struggle to keep afloat in an apartment. Living beyond my means to accommodate my day to day expenses. I can’t even afford a house or a car on what I live on. I am not taking out a loan to get deeper in debt. Earning less than $20,000 doesn’t even help my situation to cover the cost of my living expenses or transportation to and from work. Help me!
Another week has passed and still no one truly needy has been on it. Cancel this joke.
i dont think it should be cancelled but they should select those that really need some help. some of us are living on pay check to pay check working very hard to survive. why cant CBS show me where to apply for for this briefcase, i will be very greatfull. God bless CBS thanks.
I love, love, love, this show, it’s amazing the final outcome, because you start out guessing the couples will do one thing and as the show goes on and final is something totally different. Please DO NOT CANCEL this show.
Love the show.
I have enjoyed every episode of The Briefcase. It does not present impoverished families but like most have struggles. I view it as a show about each family’s character and values which makes it rewarding to watch.
I watched an episode last night that really bothered me. It was with the transgender couple and the other couple, devout roman catholic. Well the catholic wife had a problem with the transgender male. What I want to know, why is it okay with the devote catholic to get plastic surgery on her face but not okay for the transgender surgery. Both are still changing how God made them. This is why people get down on some Christians, they are hypocrites!!
Hey I for one love the show. The one I saw this week had me in tears! I love the hope and help offers. I am like Ray I would love to fix my credit (be debt free) and just live comfortable (not above my means) just secure of a roof, food, utilities, meds, medical supplies, health, clothes and a bed. I spent my first year and a half in a hospital, from the time I was discharged to 3 yrs I was being abused by my mother. The state (at age 3) removed me from my home and made… Read more »
I liked your show until the season finale. What gives anyone the right to pass judgement because of RELIGION! Amari and his spouse have a right to do anything they want with their part of the with no CONDITIONS from the Catholic’s.
YES PLEASE KEEP THE BRIEFCASE ON, WE LOVE THE SHOW … IT GIVES US HOPE THAT THEIR IS GOOD PEOPLE OUT THERE…….
