Is there still a future for The Kids Are Alright? Recently, star Mary McCormack spoke with The Los Angeles Times about her efforts to save the cancelled ABC TV show.
Set in the 1970s, the sitcom centers on the Clearys, an Irish-Catholic family living on the outskirts of Los Angeles. The cast includes Michael Cudlitz, Mary McCormack, Sam Straley, Caleb Foote, Sawyer Barth, Christopher Paul Richards, Jack Gore, Andy Walken, and Santino Barnard.
In the interview, McCormack says she thinks ABC cancelled The Kids Are Alright before its time:
It feels too short. It’s hard to get something really funny and nuanced and moving, and I thought our show was all those things. There’s a lot of stuff I don’t understand about how shows find new homes, but you do hear about it. And I guess because you hear about it, your fans think there’s hope. There are just so many networks now — networks I’ve never heard of. So I’m still holding out a little hope that someone will look at us and see we’re like the already housebroken cute shelter pet that needs someone to adopt them.”

This was one of the funniest shows I had seen in a long time. Our family laughed out loud at least once every episode. It flabbergasts me that a show like this gets canceled while other shows with worse ratings were renewed.
The horrible spin off The Connors that ratings are way low not even close to the comeback Rossane that crushed the ratings,and this show gets cancelled after one season,l admit l didn’t watch The kids are alright cause l am not watching anything ABC puts on after the way the treated and fired Rossane not even let even defend herself,and a lot are doing the same thing not supporting ABC that can effect other shows think about it,try and go with Fox good luck then l will watch…..
I really enjoyed watching The Kids Are Alright. I would certainly watch another season. Perhaps the people who gave Last Man Standing a second try could rescue this show too.
I’m quite disappointed that ABC canceled The Kids Are Alright and Cavalier Whiskey. I found them very enjoyable to watch. It seems that most shows I like get canceled. I’m hoping the higher ups at ABC change their mind, or another station picks them up. There are so many Reality tv show that should be canceled instead.

It is one of the few shows I dvr’d and watched over and over. I so badly hope it can be renewed.
I would absolutely love to see this show continue on ANY network; cable or online! One of the funniest comedies I’ve recently seen. Grew up in that time period and everything was spot on! Loved it! Hope it makes it back somehow.
My husband and I loved this show. We laughed more during this show than any other sitcom. We were quite surprised when this show was canceled. To cancel such a good show and renew so many bad, unfunny shows just makes no sense. I hope Mary can save it.
I watched the show religiously. I loved it to death. I thought it was funny, the actrors were brilliant reenacting that time period. I grew up in that period and it’s just so funny to see real life come back on the screen. Please let a network pick it up again. It was one of the funniest shows on TV. There hasn’t been something that funny on TV in a very long time.
I absolutely loved this show but evidently, if i love it, its the kiss of death. Every show i loved got cancelled, including Whiskey Cavalier, the best ever
