Not counting the Prison Break revival, FOX introduced 10 new TV shows during the regular 2016-17 television season and cancelled seven of them. Now they’ve picked up Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane’s new space adventure comedy drama. Can his animated series success translate to live-action sci-fi? Will The Orville TV show be cancelled or renewed for a second season on FOX? Stay tuned.
The Orville stars MacFarlane, Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, Halston Sage, J Lee, Mark Jackson, Chad L. Coleman, Norm Macdonald, Larry Joe Campbell, Victor Garber, Brian George, and Rachael MacFarlane. In 2417, Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane) is promoted to captain The U.S.S. Orville, with the assistance of First Officer Kelly Grayson (Palicki). Unfortunately, she’s his ex-wife, and her presence acts as a bridle on his enthusiasm. Whether facing off with the Krill, a dangerous alien race, or attempting rescues on behalf of the Planetary Union, the human and alien crew still must deal with their mundane issues and each other.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
12/8 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like The Orville TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season on FOX?
11/2 update: The Orville is renewed for season two on FOX. Details here.
The show brings a light hearted view of space travel. I was looking forward to seeing more. With the on slot of crude words, references to my balls, etc I can not see this show being one for a family to watch. It is my hope that the writers and network will provide a much better show without the cussing.
This show is awful. It’s just a money grab for Seth MacFarlane.
Sorry CBS, but this is the Best Star Trek since TNG.
They, won’t let you post negative comments so I won’t waste my time ever on this site!
Ever hear the saying “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all”?
How far down the Toilet have our moral values gone? I hate to think of children watching this vulgar, crude trash . I don’t think there is much hope for America.
And how does this comment relate to The Orville, which is none of that.
The Orville is an awesome show! One of the best I’ve seen in years. They need to keep this one! I am glued to the TV when this is on. Never a dull moment!
We need more light hearted adventures like Orville on TV I like it
I really like it, good sets and effects, good stories but, not too preachy. Humor sometimes misses but, all in all the humor is good.
As a die hard sci-fi fan I was dubious about Orville. It looked like it would be a bad canned laughter spoof of Star Trek…its not at all bad and there’s NO laugh track-thank the powers that be. I gotta say I hope it keeps going! I LOVE how it tackles sensitive issues. And it’s wonderfully smart with tongue planted firmly in cheek. AND Jonathan Frakes directed one, so, hey, Trekki in me is happy.
This is a fun show.
This show is hilarious! Seriously I keep wondering what is wrong with people now a days. The best shows get cancelled and the most generic ones stick around. I really hope it renews for a few more seasons, the sens of humor is great, and it’s a unique blend of comedy and sci-fi.
I really like The Orville. Like most new shows, it takes a couple episodes to get things to mesh. I’m a die-hard Star Trek fan but decided to not watch Discovery because it’s not on regular channels. I loved the plots and seriousness of the Star Treks, but I like the added comedy of The Orville too. I don’t know why people think sci-fi can’t be funny. In life you have serious things happen and funny things happen and everything in between. Why don’t people like a TV show that is like real life? I feel like a few of… Read more »
I like the show, It is refreshing to see a bit of humor in a sci fi genre, quit taking things so seriously, life isn’t all about cops and doctors.
Everyone I speak with can’t watch this show. It’s so awful.
You mus be talking to CBS shills pushing their awful Discovery.
The Orville is the best Star Trek since TNG
Seth MacFarlane has real power at FOX. He will get another year if he wants. After that they will talk.
Trek loyalists are blip. This show doesn’t compete with ST! It enhances the Trek experience with great comedy laughter.
