Actor Steve Burton is leaving The Young and the Restless on CBS. Expect his final episode to air in December. Burton has played Dylan McAvoy for the last four years on the soap opera, but is best known for playing Jason Quartermaine aka Jason Morgan on ABC‘s General Hospital, between 1991 and 2012. The actor announced his departure on Twitter.
Returning to Port Charles may not be a done deal. Two years after Burton departed for Genoa City, popular Y&R vet Billy Miller joined GH, first as amnesiac Jake Doe. The storyline made it clear that Doe — who had undergone facial reconstruction surgery after being run over — was Jason.
Fans sat through a long, drawn out reveal that Jake was Jason. They then waited seemingly forever for the character to regain his memories and reunite with wife Sam McCall Morgan (Kelly Monaco).
Burton came from GH to Y&R along with Jill Farren Phelps, who executive produced from 2012, until she and Charles Pratt, Jr. were fired, in June. The duo was replaced by Mal Young who, along with new headwriter Sally Sussman Morina, has brought back Elizabeth Hendrickson and Michael Graziadei as Chloe Mitchell and Daniel Romalotti.
Burton lives in Nashville, TN. Under Phelps, he had a taping schedule which allowed him more time at home with his family. It is likely the new regime did not agree to that accommodation.
Burton posted three tweets on his exit. Taken together, his message reads: “Hey everyone, with lots of reflection, I have decided to move on from @YandR_CBS at the end of my contract in Dec. I’ve had an amazing time, but it feels right to move on to new adventures in my life. I can’t say enough about the AWESOME cast and crew. Much respect! Much luv to @CBSDaytime for the great ride. Y&R is still recovering from the loss of Justin Hartley, who played Adam Newman. Hartley is in the cast of NBC‘s new hit show, This Is Us.

Steve was missed so badly from G.H. as Jason. I have enjoyed his time at Y&R but never felt like they put him in good story lines. Either way, I love Steve and will miss seeing him………. On another quick note: It broke my heart to see Justin Hartly leave the role of Adam Newman. He and Chellsie had such great chemistry. Best of luck to both actors

GH, but I love Billy as Jason now! Would love to have both of my guys on GH! That would be heaven! Just gotta figure out how to get Steve back on GH. He could suddenly show up as the brother that Sonny never knew he had! That way, Sonny,Billy and Steve would all be together,playing off of each other. Or Steve could come back as Jason’s long lost cousin! Interesting turn about for Samantha! Just some thoughts………….

I would love for Steve to come back to GH as Jason I have really missed him. I am still having a hard time accepting Billy in the role of Jason. Although I also watch Y AND R and liked Steve as Dylan I think he is a better Jason. I also like Billy as an actor but not for the role of Jason. Good luck in whatever comes next Steve you will be missed.
I really liked Steve Burton as “Jason Morgan” on GH. I will miss him as Dillan on Y&R. It would be wonderful for him to return to GH. All the best in your future endeavors!
First and foremost Steve Burton is a fine actor, whether he portrays Dylan or Jason(GH) I have very much enjoyed the character of Dylan and will be sad to see him go! Steve was also a great Jason! However I have come to enjoy the new Jason played by Billy Miller!
No I will not miss him I do not think he was that good of an actor considering he and Sharon took nicks baby and now he feels that he has visitation rights also he was supposed to be a cop and do the right thing when Sharon did wrong he didn’t want her arrested but he couldn’t wait to have Victor Newman arrested that’s my favorite actor so no goodbye and good riddance and I’ve been a fan of Young and the Restless since it came out.
I think you my be taking this fairy tale a little to personal. Lol
that wasn’t Dylan’s fault, he has to go along with the storyline written for him I love Steve in both roles however I adore him om GH A family favorite.

Steve Burton is my favorite daytime soap actor- has been for decades. Sorry to see him go and hope to see him in other projects. Followed his move to Y&R. Love the character created for him- Dylan has ties to 2 legacy characters that leaves the potential for so many future story lines. Hope Y&R doesn’t eliminate the character. As for Burton returning to GH – I hope he doesn’t. The writer’s at GH destroyed the character of Jason Quatermaine/Morgan- like they have destroyed so many of the show’s characters. I hope that Steve finds his way back to GH. Something went out of that show after he left. I’ve always hoped he would find his way back to Port Chuck!
This is awful news… I can’t believe these new people come in and make all these stupid changes? Don’t the fans get any say so after all we are the ones who watch! I’m sure Y & R will lose some viewers because it’s getting so boring
I love love love Steve Burton. I like Billy Miller but I think Steve Burton was better as Jason on GH. Please send him back to GH. He is my favorite actor.
