As the “most watched” broadcast network, CBS holds its comedies to some pretty lofty standards where the Nielsen ratings are concerned. Last year, although Joel McHale’s The Great Indoors was the Tiffany Network’s sixth best rated scripted series in terms of its demo numbers (and 14th in terms of total viewership), it was cancelled after just one season. In the 2017-18 television season, their new comedies include Mark Feuerstein’s 9JKL TV show, as well as Me, Myself & I, and The Big Bang Theory prequel Young Sheldon. Who will have the last laugh? Will 9JKL be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.
A CBS scripted comedy, 9JKL stars Mark Feuerstein, David Walton, Elliott Gould, Linda Lavin, Liza Lapira, Matt Murray, and Albert Tsai. From creators Dana Klein and Feuerstein — a married couple — this sitcom is loosely inspired by the time they spent living next door to Feuerstein’s family. It centers on newly divorced actor, Josh Roberts (Feuerstein), who moves from Los Angeles, back to his hometown of New York City. The only problem is, his apartment is sandwiched between those of his parents, Harry and Judy (Gould and Lavin) on one side, and his brother and sister-in-law, Andrew and Eve (Waltong and Lapira), on the other. In addition to figuring out his next step, Josh also has to establish some ground rules for his family, then teach them how to abide by them. **Status update, below.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
2/6 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Did you enjoy the 9JKL TV series? Should it have been cancelled or renewed for a second season on CBS?
**4/20/2018 status update: The 9JKL TV show has been cancelled by CBS, so there will be no season two. Details here.
Please keep this show. It’s a cut above other comedies. Not for the monosyllabic vocal fry crowd!
I love the show and miss it! It is cool to see Mark Fuerstein again. Royal Pains was one of the best!
I love the show and Feuerstein coming off the hit in the Hamptons “Royal Pains” should help make this show great. Just ask the former “Alice” star to loose some of her wang! It can get annoying at times. I loved it when the former sister-in-law from “Royal Pains” showed up to be his love interest a few shows ago. Love it…please keep something clean on TV in the way of a comedy!!
I LOVE this show. It’s FUNNY!!!!!
The show should be evicted. Not a funny show, as a comedy should be. Torturous at best.
Please don’t cancel this show – it is hysterical!
This show is hysterical – please don’t cancel it
Please don’t cancel this show. I love it. Also, thanks for adding Luke (Tone Bell), He’s so funny!
I actually really like the show. It’s stupid slapstick humor. Keep it going!
Love the show.funny funny funny.
I think it’s awful. Me, Myself, and I was so much better. 9JKL has poor acting, even worse storylines, dumb characters.
Yeah that Elliot Gould and Linda Lavin, amateurish acting at best. Pffft. Dude, you just made your opine moot.
It is really hard to watch. It cannot keep my interest. The humor is way too forced. It is a shame because there are a lot of good actors in this show but it is bad. I don’t know if it is the writing or the execution of the lines but it is too frantic and predictable.
sorry, I don’t think it should be cancelled – even though I love the actors!!!, it’s just not that good
Love Linda Lavin glad to see her back. The show seems to revolve to much around her and her son, rather than the whole cast. At this point it should be called Medling Parents not 9jkl. I hope the writing gets better and it gets another year, but I don’t see it happening.
Renew well written cast is great
9jkl is a refreshingly funny look at real life! It makes me laugh out loud which rarely happens in today’s crazy world. I love Mark feuerstein who has fantastic comedic timing and a magnetic personality. The show is written so well that it flies by! Too fast!
9jkl Great Comedy by far…..Do not cancel please!
