Things were fairly status quo at the alphabet network though there were a handful of fairly significant gains and losses. America’s Funniest Home Videos was up by 25% while Wipeout, Happy Endings and the Dancing with the Stars results show all had big drops.
Which ABC TV series will be renewed or cancelled depends mostly on the show’s ratings, particularly the 18-49 demographic. Before we get to the season-to-date averages, here are the winners and losers from April 29th through May 5th — based on the coveted demo, as measured against the last original episode.
Week-to-Week Gains: 20/20: A Modern Fairytale 1.6/5 (+14.3% compared to Thurs), America’s Funniest Home Videos 2.0/7 (+25.0%), Extreme Makeover: Home Edition 2.3/6 (+4.5%), The Middle 2.0/6 (+5.3%), Better with You 1.6/5 (+6.7%), Modern Family 3.9/10 (+2.6%), Cougar Town 2.2/6 (+4.8%), and Private Practice 2.3/6 (+4.5%).
No Change: (none)
Week-to-Week Losses: Shark Tank 1.2/4 (-14.3%), Desperate Housewives 2.8/7 (-9.7%), Brothers & Sisters 1.6/4 (-15.8%), Dancing with the Stars 4.5/12 (Mon, -4.3%), Castle 2.9/7 (-3.3%), Dancing with the Stars (Tues results) 3.0/8 (-16.7%), Body of Proof 2.0/5 (-9.1%), Happy Endings 1.7/4 (10pm, -19.0%), Happy Endings 1.4/4 (10:30pm, -17.6%, compared to 10pm), Wipeout 1.4/5 (-26.3%), and Grey’s Anatomy 3.5/10 (-5.4%).

The data is sorted by the all-important 18-49 demographic averages. The closer a show is to the bottom, the more likely it is to be cancelled. Fridays and Saturdays are the least-watched nights of TV so those shows get lower numbers.

hey advertising idiots: the 18-49 demographic does not apply anymore! 18 to 30 has no money to spend, why would you advertise to them! They are part of the “dumb down generation”! because of the baby boom after WWII from 1945 to 1961,ages 31-60 is the new buying demographic. pay attention!
