Although TNT has carried Turner’s drama banner for a while, in the last year or so, they’ve tried to reposition it as the home for edgier content, even going so far as to cancel Major Crimes — its best Nielsen ratings performer. Is The Alienist — a Gilded Age period mystery — a good fit with the cable network’s grittier focus? Since it features a serial killer, does that mean it fills the bill? Will The Alienist be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
Based on the Caleb Carr novel, The Alienist TV show stars Daniel Brühl, Luke Evans, Dakota Fanning, Brian Geraghty, Douglas Smith, Matthew Shear, Matt Lintz, Robert Ray Wisdom, and Q’orianka Kilcher. Set in 1896 in New York City, the TNT drama centers on Laszlo Kreizler (Brühl), an alienist, i.e. a criminal psychologist. When a ritualistic serial killer starts targeting boy prostitutes, Police Commissioner Teddy Roosevelt (Geraghty) drafts Kreizler to head up his secret investigation into the murders.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.

Love this show. Interesting, unique, and intelligent. So tired of “dumbed down shows.” This one is a keeper for those of us who hate mind numbing so called comedies and reality shows. Please renew!
Please keep it. I’m enthralled even though I don’t usually watch dramas. Thanks
Please keep the show!!
Keep the show
Love the new series! I can’t get enough of this period show! Great ensemble from the writers, director to the set crew and especially the actors and actresses that have brought life to the books! Appreciate value TV!
I absolutely love this series. Something totally different and refreshing. Hoping this story will continue for another season.
Please renew The Alienist, one of the best TV thrillers ever w/superior acting, superb writing, supreme costuming & set design!!!!!!
Baby Boomers
Please produce season 2 of the alienist and continue for more seasons. It’s by far one of the best TV dramas on today.
I can not wait for each new episodes. I enjoy the characters especially Dakota Fanning…I personally love Crime Procedural, But more importantly those done well…the Disregard of the children of the immigrant and poverty strike is tough to absorb…but it is the truth that should not be forgotten..I have my fingers crossed that this series will be renewed..
Great show. Period piece that blows me away. Reminds me of Copper, only a little more classy and makes you think more.
This show has me hooked, I started watching as a massive Luke Evans fans and it has not disappointed. The production values are outstanding and the cast all around excellent with a gripping story to boot.
The first couple episodes were near-snoozefests, but I understand that the characters haven’t been developed and the plot is being created. Fortunately for me, I gave it a third and fourth episode because this show has become outstanding. The actors are great, the plot is outstanding, the set and costuming is absolutely on-point. I will be totally bummed if this show doesn’t get a second season.
I love this show! I cannot get enough of periodic mysteries! The characters are so interesting and draw me into the story by their unique personalities. The historic accuracy pushes me to learn more about the times as well!
Watched one episode and fell asleep during it. They say the book is always better. Very true in this adaptation.
Omg! This show is on par with the likes of Sherlock. If fact I think the alienist appears to have a much less predictable outcome. Why aren’t more people watching it?! Claws? Please, dump that for more programing like this TNT!
Loved Carr’s books. After so many years, I’m going to have to go back and read them again. Last night was wonderful, great adaptation. I’m hooked.
Watched e1 &e2 I’m hooked as well. Very well written and directed. Unbelievable how real the setting seems.
