NBC has cancelled Awake, their cop series with an alternate reality twist. Created by Kyle Killen (Lone Star), the 13th and final episode will air on Thursday, May 24th. Sadly we might never learn exactly what was going on in the head of Detective Michael Britten (Jason Isaacs).
Fans of this unique TV series are understandably upset and the cast and crew aren’t too crazy about the news either. Here’s what they had to say:
Wilmer Valderrama (Efrem Vega): “Wanted 2 say thank you 2 all our amazing fans 4 being so loyal & loving our @NBCAwake.. We believed in the show &…And put our hearts in every Ep.. We made something that had never been on TV, we are proud of the journey.. And grateful to… Have shared it with you all, we love you.. Make sure to NOT miss our season closing episodes.. We will finish with a bang.. LITERALLY!”
Laura Allen (Hannah Britten): “Circle of life. Back in the ring! Truly, thank you for all who watched. #Awake. #NBC. #whoknowsimight’vebeendeadthewholetimeanyway.”
Dylan Minnette (Rex Britten): “2 more episodes until the finale of #Awake We had such a good run, and the show, despite this, was truly great.” “It was an incredible experience working with everyone, thank you for the opportunity. Couldn’t have been blessed with a better cast and crew” To the cast and crew, he wrote, “You are all so talented, I’m so grateful that I had the chance to work with all of you!… Thank you all so much!”
BD Wong (Therapist John Lee) retweeted a lot of others’ comments and simply wrote, “what a lousy way to wake up from a nap!”
Daniela Bobadilla (Emma): “Sad to be writing this tweet.. From the bottom of my heart I am beyond grateful for the opportunity and experience I had on #Awake. Love…every single person on the cast and crew. So proud to have been part of such an intelligent, cool show. Thank you @killen8!!! :):):)”
Michaela McManus (Tara): “Thanks to everyone who tuned in these past couple months. Very sorry to say good-bye… #RIPAwake”
Nicole Burke (first assistant director): “Just got the bad news #awake was cancelled. Thank you to all the fans that watched and to the talented cast & crew.” “To the brain behind #AWAKE @killen8 Thank you for a wild and crazy ride. I enjoyed every minute well maybe every minute. Till next time!”
Kyle Killen (creator, executive producer): “no, don’t see us taking awake anywhere else. yes, the season finale is a really satisfying way to go out. our best EP + penguin” “guys its cool. awake lasted 600% longer than lone star. at that rate next 1 be on until end of time. now, anyone know if Whitney is hiring?” “that was not meant to be shot at Whitney #promise #justlookingforplacetotakeairmattress”
Lost’s Damon Lindelof wrote to Killen, “Small consolation, but I believe AWAKE will still be talked about in a decade. And fondly.” Killen responded, “thank you. I’ve always wanted to say to someone “you’re a prince” and this seems like the opportunity I’ve been waiting for!”
Josh Friedman, who’s Finder series was also cancelled, wrote, “I choose to live in a version of my life where @killen8 ‘s #Awake is still on the air.”
What do you think? Are you also upset that Awake won’t be coming back for a second season? What would you say to the cast and crew about the program?

This show was amazing. I think the failure may lie in that it aired only once per week, since the american public perhaps cannot retain the complex story line for the vacant six days between each episode. I think, if this show were on each night, for 13 straight days, the way I watched it on Netflix, it turned out to be amazingly profound. It is a mistake to cancel this show, unless the writers think that they just could’nt keep up the strong storyline. The ending was upbeat but weak, happy, but disappointing. The ending was just not as… Read more »
I’m fascinated and also thinking about what you’re writing about below.
You have no idea how disappointed I was that the Awake series ended and will not be returning. I absolutely loved it. Each episode was like a short movie. I am now looking for the DVD set to give as a Christmas gift. Does anyone know if its out on DVD yet and if so where can I get it? Bravo to the writer(s), producers and actor/actresses. Good job!!!
So much bull. This show was amazing. DVR’d every episode. This show seriously needs to continue. Really got the mind racing. And shows like TheVoice stay on tv >.>
every time a good show comes onto nbc its cancelled. the twits that cancelled this show should be fired. you twits get a good show on and what dump it. people with a working brain out here are sick of all these stupid reallity? shows. your dumbing up america with this garbage tv. we want something thought provoking . awake was that show . no wonder nbc is last on the big 3. cancel the ones who canceled this show, not the show! i wont watch nbc any more you bunch of retards wouldnt know a hit show if it… Read more »
Ratings r bad the first year, because fans always get screwed in the end. You invest your time and emotions into a show. Only to have some suit cancel it because of ratings. Every time their is an intelligent police show on. It gets cancelled, Men From Mars, The Unusuals were the most realalistic Police shows ever. You keep putting out these fantasy cop shows, that r some much bs. Rookie blue, and that other new york show with tom sellick. You think if u have bad ratings u should cancel a show. You are so wrong, you have to… Read more »
I am shocked that Awake was cancelled. Why cancel a thought provoking, engaging show. Someone made a really poor decision on this one. My question now is where can I get the season dvds? I hope that atleast that is available.
One of the best shows I have ever seen
So annoyed at nbc for cancealing awake .It will be along while before I tune into anything they air. If nothing else the could have a least ended it with an explaination of what really was going on. Remember this was the same network that cancealed star trek.
I am so disappointed. I loved this show. Hasn’t been a new series I have gotten into in a long time. Wish that someone else would pick it up.
Loved the show … hated the ending !!
I started watching the show late in the season but luckily I have the kind of cable where you can see back episodes……I thoroughly enjoy the show the concept is great …..and the twists and turns are fantastic . I really wish that they give it another season……..yes it was in a lousy time slot …..and with all the reality show that are on tv which are pretty lame you would think that a good show would at least rate a second season….pretty
disapointed joe…..
Loved it! Haven’t gotten into a show in years…..this was smart writing and lots of suspense….looked foreard to every episode. So sorry to see it go. A guaranteed hit in a better time slot.
A brilliant series with an outstanding cast and NBC succumbs to a public that has dumbed down!!! The majority of Americans are incapable of being entertained if they are required to think… People want to be hit over the head with the obvious dribble… I am so disappointed!!!!!!!
I agree with Nicolette and Kerri that here was a brilliant series with an outstanding cast and NBC chose to cancel such a wonderful show. I had been following this show since the very first episode and would have loved to follow Detective Michael’s exploits. Jason Isaacs is a wonderful actor and I loved seeing him in all the Harry Potter movies he got to appear in and was looking forward to seeing him on NBC.
