Blue Bloods has now ended its 11th season on CBS, and the season finale could have served as the end of the series. The cop family drama was renewed for a 12th season last month but, in late 2020, showrunner Kevin Wade believed the end might be near.
Wade said the following about the CBS series in an interview with Deadline:
“We were told pretty early on, I think before Thanksgiving that our season finale would be the last two episodes and would air back to back which I immediately took as they’re planning to wrap up the series … So I started to think about how do we do something that could serve as a season finale but also if need be as a series finale.
We went back to the end of the first season where all the Reagans became involved in finding out and catching and bringing to justice the bad cops who killed Joe Reagan who is of course, Joe Hill’s father. And it was kind of a callback to that, just in case it was a series finale it would have a circle to it.”
The finale was completely filmed before news of the renewal was released last month. Blue Bloods will return for season 12 in the fall.

I will watch Blue Bloods as long as it runs, and then watch reruns. I love every person on BB. Even the ones I don’t like their character, I love their acting.
I don’t think late last episode of Season 11 would have been a good ending.
I’d like to see Danny get married, Erin get back with Jack and Eddie & Jamie have a baby.

I am addicted to Blue Bloods. I binge on reruns! Tom Selleck and the entire cast have great depth of class and bring depth to tge show. I will be glued to my flat screen next season. The two-hour season finale was over the top! I have high expectations for season opener because Blue Bloods exceptional writers must top this heart wrenching season 11 ending! Can’t wait! Until then, I’ll binge on reruns this summer!
This has been my favorite show for years, a long, long time fan of Tom Selleck. Admire this gentleman so much! A show that is very much needed in today’s world.

Danny is the most cartoonish, shallow character in Prime Time television. The other characters are interesting…especially Jamie and Edie.

I do not need all the fingers on one hand to count the number of network shows I watch anymore. Blue Bloods is an exception. It’s a well made series that I look forward to each week. When it is gone there will be nothing left worth watching on the major networks.
