Blue Bloods has now ended its 11th season on CBS, and the season finale could have served as the end of the series. The cop family drama was renewed for a 12th season last month but, in late 2020, showrunner Kevin Wade believed the end might be near.
Wade said the following about the CBS series in an interview with Deadline:
“We were told pretty early on, I think before Thanksgiving that our season finale would be the last two episodes and would air back to back which I immediately took as they’re planning to wrap up the series … So I started to think about how do we do something that could serve as a season finale but also if need be as a series finale.
We went back to the end of the first season where all the Reagans became involved in finding out and catching and bringing to justice the bad cops who killed Joe Reagan who is of course, Joe Hill’s father. And it was kind of a callback to that, just in case it was a series finale it would have a circle to it.”
The finale was completely filmed before news of the renewal was released last month. Blue Bloods will return for season 12 in the fall.

My partner and I had never watched Blue Bloods until the lockdown in 2020 (UK) we have watched all the seasons and we were sad when we watched the finale. Can’t wait for the next season

The season 11 finale end was great! Nice lead-in to season 12. An intense drama and an exciting suspense i so-much enjoyed. Great acting! The voiced emotions with the body language and facial expressions were perfect. I never believed that Joe(Will Hochman) would be written off/killed, but i have to admit that i was on-edge of seat to the end. Blue Bloods is my favorite show , the season finale was great and as far as a season finale but, as a series finale I’d like to see the writers go even deeper into Our beloved Reagan family, go more into the past episodes and find ways to flashback into past seasons to emotionally do a series finale and make it a two block buster back to back Episodes – 4 hour finale But as Tom Selleck said” I see No stopping point for this show this show, Blue Bloods could keep going On” so with that and fans are… Read more »
I’m so happy Blue Bloods is renewed. I never miss watching it. I also watch all the reruns. I love it as much as NCIS… Please keep these shows.
I love this show. The characters, the family dynamics, the realistic issues, the fact its not sweary, the various generations but most of all the way Frank Regan has his thinking face that Jamie is now developing lol. I miss it when it’s not on.
Blue blood is our number 1 go to show on TV. It is brilliant
Blue Bloods is my favorite show since its beginning. I DVR them and I watch all the reruns shown on other networks as well. I’m so happy it has been picked up for another season. I love all the characters and the amazing cast who play on it.

The season finale story was great. I love this show, and I would have been sad if it had been the series finale, but it was well done and would have been OK for that.
My husband and I love this show. We watch all the new episodes as well as all of the marathons of previous seasons. Please continue to produce this show. We enjoyed the season finale, but glad it wasn’t the series finale. There are too many storylines that need to be explored.
Blue Bloods is the best network show ever. Great cast, wonderful writing, very relevant. We will look forward to all upcoming seasons!

I love Blue Bloods. The cast is excellent. They act very natural. Please don’t end this series. It’s one that they family can watch, no vulgarity or excessive violence

We love Blue Bloods, and it wouldn’t be Friday night without it. Please keep it on, as we want to see how each family member’s life evolves. There are not many shows that reflect such wholesome family values, and Tom Selleck is a gem!
