Blue Bloods has now ended its 11th season on CBS, and the season finale could have served as the end of the series. The cop family drama was renewed for a 12th season last month but, in late 2020, showrunner Kevin Wade believed the end might be near.
Wade said the following about the CBS series in an interview with Deadline:
“We were told pretty early on, I think before Thanksgiving that our season finale would be the last two episodes and would air back to back which I immediately took as they’re planning to wrap up the series … So I started to think about how do we do something that could serve as a season finale but also if need be as a series finale.
We went back to the end of the first season where all the Reagans became involved in finding out and catching and bringing to justice the bad cops who killed Joe Reagan who is of course, Joe Hill’s father. And it was kind of a callback to that, just in case it was a series finale it would have a circle to it.”
The finale was completely filmed before news of the renewal was released last month. Blue Bloods will return for season 12 in the fall.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Blue Bloods on CBS? Do you plan to watch the new season next fall? Would the episodes that aired last Friday have satisfied you as a series finale?
So thankful there will be a season 12! My favorite show by far

I love Blue Bloods. So glad it will be back for another season!
Blue Bloods is actually our favorite TV series. We love it. It is so well written. It also tells a story of a family the sits around the dinner table on Sunday like mine did when I was growing up. It portrays a realistic view of family life. It also covers subject matter that is so prevalent today. Will continue to watch it as long as it is on TV. Also love the actors on the show. They were perfectly chosen for their roles.
I watch Blue Bloods faithless. As O did NCS. New Orleans.
I love blue bloods!! The story lines, the family dinners especially. The finale was exceptional. How one family pulled together to help each other. Fantastic!
Please don’t cancel the best show on TV.
I am happy to know that Blue Bloods will return in the Fall as I am a devoted viewer and look forward to this amazing program. This is the best program, in my opinion.
Have watch every episode of series, BEST show on TV !!
I love the show,it has great family values, and I come from a a family of police officers, my father was a Philadelphia police officer for 25 yrs, and his father was killed in the line of duty in 1945. So I have great respect and admiration for this show it is heartwarming and funny at times a great blend for entertainment. Thank you I hope it will run for years to come! I love this show
Love Bluebloods! So happy it’s been renewed! Each show is fresh and new, faction packed and centered around a family unit that reinforces their love for each other. The show boasts some of the best writers, directors and actors in the industry! Thank you to all who bring this wonderful show into our home!
The best family show on any media by far. I never feel uncomfortable watching with my parents or friends.
Will definitely watch! Huge fan! Loved the season finale! Need to see more of Joe Hill, at least at family dinners and sometimes in action. (You already work in 3 to 4 story lines at once, beautifully, but not sure a fifth would work unless they overlap. And, of course, what we need next: Henry needs more “G.G’s! (Great Grands- his name for Jack and Sean from a Season 2 episode!) We need to have Eddie pregnant!!
