Jimmy Smits won multiple awards for his work on the LA Law TV series back in the 1990s. Now, he’s back on NBC in another legal drama called Bluff City Law. Will his latest show also be a big success on the peacock network? Will Bluff City Law be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A legal drama, the Bluff City Law TV series stars Jimmy Smits, Caitlin McGee, Scott Shepherd, Barry Sloane, Michael Luwoye, MaameYaa Boafo, Stony Blyden, and Jayne Atkinson. Coming from a famous Memphis family that’s known for taking on injustice, a brilliant lawyer named Sydney Strait (McGee) used to work at her father Elijah’s celebrated law firm until their tumultuous relationship got in the way. After barely speaking to Elijah (Smits) for years, Sydney is suddenly thrust back into the family fold when her philanthropist mother passes away unexpectedly. In the wake of the loss of his wife and in hopes of reconnecting with the daughter he loves, Elijah asks Sydney to rejoin his Civil Rights firm and take on a chemical company whose product may cause cancer. Despite her lingering resentment and distrust, she agrees because she knows that working alongside her father is her best hope at changing the world — as long as they can find a way to get along. No sooner has Sydney returned than she stumbles on a secret that Elijah has been keeping from her that may change everything.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
11/26 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.

Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the Bluff City Law TV series on NBC? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
*6/16/20 update: Bluff City Law has been cancelled by NBC so, there won’t be a second season.
Keep Bluff City law and allow the fan base to grow! The story and relationships are growing and it will find it’s mojo! Give it a chance!
This is an awesome show. Storylines are great and not a lot of violence. Day and time are not good especially with Monday night football. Please keep it on. While sometimes I’ve missed it on Monday night, I always catch up on demand.
One of the best shows of the new season. Can’t believe Bluff City Law is being cancelled. NBC quit cancelling good shows. Not worth watching new shows just to see them cancelled.
RECONSIDER CANCELLING BLUFF CITY LAW – AWESOME SHOW !!!!
Please renew Bluff city law!!!!!
Please renew Bluff city law!!!!! Love the show!!
Love this show please do not cancel
This is the worst decision- this network could make. This is a fantastic show- this is an epic fail. I am so disappointed I will be boycotting other shows know this is bs
Please Keep Bluff City Law on the air. NBC need good shows like this!!!
Please don’t cancel this show. It’s one of the only ones I watch religiously and has such real content. I am sure the promotion of the show would help with ratings.
I have been a fan from the start. I wish you would reconsider. Reminds me so much of the old LA LAW series
That’s why I like it! The closest thing we will ever get to an LA Law reboot!
NBC, this is my new favorite show. I love the characters and the stories. It needs a second season!!!!
Please don’t cancel Bluff City Law, it deserves a second season. This is the only network television show that I watch, I bought rabbit ear antenna just so I could watch it. I was in the Navy and stationed just north of Memphis for a few years and this show is quite sentimental for me. Every single episode has caused me to shed a good tear because they are representing the underdogs, they are righting wrongs, and they are giving hope. No other show is doing that. It would be a societal travesty to cancel Bluff City Law.
LOVE your post Christian!
I love the show its a clean show please keep it on.
I love this show. How is NBC not doing better with this show? Pair it with This is Us. Don’t let this show fall to the wasteside. Give it a chance in another time slot. NBC you’re not giving it a chance to shine.
That is what I keep saying!
Please renew Bluff City – This show is so good. It is about issues that are aside from rape , murder. It demonstrates the good in lawyers and cops. Having the team in the court room for verdicts – working together on cases, this is what goes on in a real office. Please do not cancel this show.
