For the previous season, CBS introduced nine new scripted shows during the regular 2018-19 season. The network cancelled five of them and renewed just four. How will their new programming do in the ratings for the 2019-20 season? Stay tuned.
CBS shows this season (so far): 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, All Rise, Blue Bloods, Bob ♥ Abishola, Big Brother, Broke, Bull, Carol’s Second Act, Criminal Minds, Evil, FBI, FBI: Most Wanted, Game On!, God Friended Me, The Greatest #AtHome Videos, Hawaii Five-0, Love Island, MacGyver, Magnum PI, Man with a Plan, Mom, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, The Neighborhood, SEAL Team, Survivor, SWAT, Tommy, Tough As Nails, Undercover Boss, The Unicorn, and Young Sheldon.
There’s lots of data that CBS execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing so far.

A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
If you watch Bull you are inadvertently supporting a man who has sexually harassed so many women it is hard to count. Let’s try to put aside the recent $19 million dollar payout to Eliza Dushku. $19 million?!?! What explicitly did he do? That is not chump change even for CBS, so obviously he did something, well what was it? CBS was being run my Les Moonves a great friend of Michael weatherly and also notorious sexual abuser who has been caught and fired. The two of them made a lot of money together at CBS and have each other’s… Read more »
I think Deputy was a good show. It shouldn’t have been cancelled!
God Friended Me is an uplifting show that we all need in these troubling times. My family, friends and neighbors all love this show. Looking forward to season 3!!
Magnum PI
Why do you only ask one age group for ratings?
Thank you for renewing Tommy,Evil, NCIS, NCIS Los Angeles, FBI most wanted-awesome, Bull was great as well this year. I am really sorry that you cancelled Instinct. I know the female star Bojana was not that good, but Naveen Andrews and Alan Cummings were awesome. I think if you had switched out Bojana with a more lively and talented actress, and maybe increased travis Van Winkle’s story lines it would definitely had been a hit. The concept was amazing, Naveen and Alan were great. I will miss the show. Tell me a story was a little freaky but cool as… Read more »
It’s going to be hard not looking forward to the next criminal Mind, I remember the withdraws from CSI but change is inevitable. Hold of cancelling NCIS there’s just too much going on right now to change that.
Love the FBI (both shows) SWAT, MacGyver. I’m not much for sitcoms but we enjoy ALLRISE very much
I love the show Tommy it has become my favorite new show. It’s amazing and has such a good story line.
Looks like GFM will be renewed!
God friended me is such a good show I cancel my plans so I can watch it. I do not like the show Evil at all what it represents is not something I believe in.
When using only Nielson ratings does a disservice to good shows. Demographics are antiquated. how many 18 to 30 year olds even own cable. How do they get numbers? Are all households include
I agree. Lot of people I know are doing their major spending in their late 40’s, and early 50’s. They need to up it by 10 years.
I agree about the age group but would also suggest using the 60’s age group as well. TV and commercials these days rarely appeal to anyone of intelligence. So very juvenile.
All Rise gives me inside look at LA courts, LOVE IT!!!!.BULL IS fantastic, story line keeps you in sixpence LOVE IT!!! BOB LOVES ABISHOLA Culturally diverse, 1st time Great CBS. Lastly, HAWAII FIVE O. Can’t get enough of these shows. Oh, The Neighborhood great casting and story lines. DON’T CANCEL NOT ONE OF THESE. Our family has dinner around these shows. We absolutely look forward to Monday night line up beginning at 8 ending at 11pm. Then lights out!
I think Bull got better this year without its E.T. producer.
I want more man with a plan.its a great show
BULL has outdone itself in “Child of Mine” . Thank you for an hour well-spent!
