To not much surprise, NBC has decided to renew Chuck for a fourth season. Despite sagging ratings, it’s still one of the network’s best performing hour-long shows in the targeted demo.
Chuck follows a geeky electronics store employee (Zachary Levi) whose life is turned upside down when a database of top secret government information is downloaded into his brain. The series cast includes Levi, Yvonne Strahovski, Adam Baldwin, Joshua Gomez, Sarah Lancaster, Ryan McPartlin, Mark Christopher Lawrence, Scott Krinsky, Vik Sahay, and Julia Ling.
This year, the ratings started out with a 2.9 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic and 7.45 million viewers. That’s good, especially for NBC. Unfortunately, they’ve fallen quite a bit over the season. This week’s episode of Chuck hit a new low with 5.324 million viewers and an unfortunately consistent 1.9 rating in the demo.
On most other networks, Chuck would be toast. However, NBC has a lot of airtime to fill next season and needs some familiar programs to anchor the schedule. It’s likely for this reason that NBC has renewed Chuck for a fourth season of 13 episodes.
It’s unknown if it will return in the fall or if it will once again be held until midseason. We also don’t know if the peacock network is open to ordering additional episodes. One thing is safe to say though, for Chuck to be assured of a fifth season, viewership has to rise.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear that Chuck is coming back for season four? Any suggestions on how NBC can get more viewers?

Glad to see that Chuck is coming back for a 4th season. Chuck is one of the best shows I have ever watched.
Chuck should DEFINITELY be renewed – one of my favorite shows.
I really like Chuck. I will be very disappointed if they cancel the show after the fourth season.
I love the show .I’m very glad it is staying on and I hope for a long time to come.
Chuck is a great TV show – and I do not watch TV generally. I am in the demographic that NBC is looking for – so I guess that is a plus. The show is smart, entertaining and genuinely has characters that people can care about – and it is fun. Emphasis on the fun. More viewers I think could be tied to getting to (1) a consistent schedule (2) sticking with the shows comedic roots while having the adventure / fantasy (3) keeping the plot line going and expanding (which I have to say it looks like they have… Read more »
‘Chuck’ is a great show and am glad to see it return for a fourth season. After the final episode of Season 3 how could you not? I will say I do not watch ‘Chuck’ on NBC, but it is because I can not watch it due to my hours at work. So I watch ‘Chuck’ on Hulu.com. After reading the online article “Chuck: TV Show Renewed for Season Four by NBC,” I have this to say regarding what NBC plans to do with it’s fourth season: As for NBC not knowing whether to start it at the beginning of… Read more »
Im glad Chuck is returning i cant wait to see what happens next in the series. If they do end up canceling the show the network will have the desency to have a series finally seson. But lets all hope that wont be for a while
Chuck is the best show on television. Put in on regularly instead of switching it all around and people will start to watch. It has one of the best casts in TV history, too!
The early shows were about comedic adventures. This year was about being a soap opera. Enough of that PLEASE!!!!
I like where the show is going with another level of the spy aspect. Great but make it lighthearted and funny and much more of Sarah in hot wear. Don’t be afraid to be outrageous , Married with children lasted for 10 years by doing just that.
Believe it or not people want fantasy. We all deal with enough reality 24/7. We need to relax and enjoy without that . We want to forget our problems and be entertained.
Please Larry, some of us enjoy thinking
So glad Chuck is back! Maybe some new enemies or something.
I agree with Jay. This show really is great and Adam Baldwin just seriously kicks major ass. I really don’t know what to do to get ratings up. I might be too late to establish a fan-base at this point, but I say you have to advertise about how awesome the show is. Maybe lie about ratings…
Chuck is a quality show and I love it. If NBC would put Chuck on at regular intervals and leave Chuck on like other shows, viewers would be able to find it. But instead they go weeks or months without showing it and then wonder why the ratings are low.
agreed!
Very Glad Chuck is staying on Air… it is one of the best shows out there right now… it is not a medical show or a CSI or something like that… it has the nice line of having action mixed with comedy… This is a definate A+ show…
I love Chuck! A comedic spy show is hard to beat! Thanks NBC for saving it. I have to DVR it so please NBC keep it around for as long as possible.
This show, though needing a return to the comedic writing of the first few seasons, still remains one of the most fun and interesting concepts for a show on TV. I’m definitely glad it will return….the cast is amazing and the show remains fun to watch.
