Dancing with the Stars went made some big changes ahead of its new season, and many fans were unhappy to see Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews fired as hosts of the ABC series. Tyra Banks is now hosting the dance competition series, and some are not happy with that choice either.
DWTS executive producer Andrew Llinares recently spoke about the reasons for the changes at an ABC press event. He said the following about the firing of Bergeron and Andrews, per The Sun:
“It’s all about evolution. Any show like this that has been on for many, many seasons needs to continue to evolve. So I think changing that host is all about evolution. It was all about making the show feel fresh, making it feel new and make it reach out to a new audience — as well as the audience that’s been there for years.”
Llinares says that he is pleased with how things have worked out and thinks that bringing in Banks to host the series has “changed the rhythm of the show in a really exciting way. I think Tyra is doing an amazing, amazing job. It’s been wonderful having her energy in the ballroom and her expertise as a host in the ballroom. She’s brought a new life to everything.”
The changes did appear to cause a drop in viewership in its second week on the air this season, but it bounced back some in week three. Dancing with the Stars currently airs on Monday nights on ABC.

Not a fan at Tyra, didn’t like her on ATG either. She requires too much attention.
I don’t like Tara at all and preferred the old hosts by a long shot
I think they made a mistaking in the firing and don’t think I will continue watching anymore as not near as good

Completely agree – I hope that the show goes off the air. It was terrible what management did to Tom Bergeron. He is far more talented than Tara Banks will ever be. She comes across as cocky.
We have watched the show from its inception. We disagree that Tyra Banks brings a new exciting energy. She lacks reality and the ability to draw the audience into the experience. We feel that Tom was able to fill awkward moments or the unexpected lags without them really being noticed. He possess a levity that Banks Doesn’t have. I realize she is new to the show and is in a unique situation of not having an audience to play off of. We just don’t see a particularly different creative direction. Very surprised! Why not Carrie and Bruno gone too? They are not refreshing! I personally would prefer Linn Goodman. He might have appeared cranky but he also appeared honest and tough.
Tyra Banks appears childlike and silly in an adult body and form.
I used to enjoy the show and the hosts. Not anymore. Tyra Banks seems like a nice person, but I don’t think she belongs in this hosting position. She comes off as ditzy and unknowledgeable. She lacks comedic expression and makes me nervous for her. I feel she struggles to come up with an appropriate or funny comment and resorts to ordinary banter, usually about herself, which distracts from the show’s purpose. The judges are great – love Derek Hough – but I’ve given up on this season.

No, I am done watching. I liked Tom, don’t care for Tyra. With that said I don’t even have any idea who “the stars” are! They need better known to keep viewers.
Nope – terrible decision. Obviously they felt a need to explain the changes. Will never watch again unless Tom returns as host and Tyra is long gone. What were they thinking?

I agree with Karen & Pamelas posts. I can see why ratings went up for week 3 because it was Disney Week. Bring Tom & Erin back. Big mistake ABC just like when you cancel good programming.
I do NOT like the new format. Tyra seems to be making this show all about her especially with her weird outfits and her grandeous entrances. We watch the shows for the dancing, stars, pros, colorful clothes and settings, entertainment. Not for TB. Tom and Erin did a great job NOT stealing or hogging the show yet highlighting the reasons we do watch the show. What a shame that ABC had to kill a good thing. The show has really dropped in my opinion. Half the time you can not even understand Tyra’s comments. Just ———-

Tyra Banks is the EXACT reason I am no longer watching! She seems to stumble over her words and the questions she asks are really unprofessional. She brings NOTHING to this show and I will not be watching from here on out. I have watched every season until now. I gave her the first two episodes, and now, ya’ll have lost a viewer. She is dull and does not have the personality to be the host!
