Dancing with the Stars went made some big changes ahead of its new season, and many fans were unhappy to see Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews fired as hosts of the ABC series. Tyra Banks is now hosting the dance competition series, and some are not happy with that choice either.
DWTS executive producer Andrew Llinares recently spoke about the reasons for the changes at an ABC press event. He said the following about the firing of Bergeron and Andrews, per The Sun:
“It’s all about evolution. Any show like this that has been on for many, many seasons needs to continue to evolve. So I think changing that host is all about evolution. It was all about making the show feel fresh, making it feel new and make it reach out to a new audience — as well as the audience that’s been there for years.”
Llinares says that he is pleased with how things have worked out and thinks that bringing in Banks to host the series has “changed the rhythm of the show in a really exciting way. I think Tyra is doing an amazing, amazing job. It’s been wonderful having her energy in the ballroom and her expertise as a host in the ballroom. She’s brought a new life to everything.”
The changes did appear to cause a drop in viewership in its second week on the air this season, but it bounced back some in week three. Dancing with the Stars currently airs on Monday nights on ABC.

Big mistake getting rid of Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews. I have not watched it all the way through yet this year. Tira doesn’t have and never will have the charm that Tom & Erin had. Big mistake on ABC’s part.
Absolutely agree with you. I have nothing against Tyra. I love her previous shows, May be it is not her fault, but some of her dresses make her looks ugly. I am sorry for her, she is beautiful women. I miss performances of pro. Show was celebration love of dance. Now just regular show. Cast and pro are interesting. I am not sure will watch to end
I happen to think Tyra Banks is so “over-dramatic” that I really can’t stand to watch her. I record the show and fast forward when she is on. I may stop watching , soon
I don’t like this season at all Tyra Banks is not a good host I have no idea why last season hosts were fired they made the show fun to watch this season it is very boring and to pick who goes home sucks I couldn’t wait to vote but now I won’t even watch Really bad show please bring back the way it was
Get rid of Banks. She thinks it is all about her. The stupid walk to dumb comments. She stinks. Fast forward every time she is on and mute the tv. When she talks. It is not about her. Why did you ryin a great show??
So Pat & Vanna & Alex Trebek? Hosts who carry a show for more seasons than DWS are holding their franchise back??? Tyra is just OK as a host but has been trying to find her niche since leaving modeling. Sadly this show is burning itself out. The concept of what they deem “Stars” has become a bigger problem. It’s hard to generate enthusiasm of the viewing audience when we don’t know most the competitors. Maybe time to pull the plug.
I’m no longer a fan. Tom WAS the perfect host. He & Erin were fabulous together…You blew it! Tyra does absolutely NOTHING for the show!!
That was a big mistake to fire Tom and Erin. Tyra Banks is over the top annoying and completely wrong for the show. We are not enjoying the show and will probably end up not watching. For now we record the show and fast forward everything to do with Tyra. Brung Tom and Erin back!!
Hell Yes! I was shocked and surprised that ABC fired Tom Bergeron/Erin Andrews but I still surprised that I am watching the show.
Say goodbye to DWTS evolution what a bunch of malarkey. Oh yeah I thought to myself after season 28 was over this show and it’s hosts are awesome. There’s no need to fix something that isn’t broke. Way to go Andy♂️♂️
Haven’t watched DWTS this season. I liked Tom and Erin. I had watched all of the seasons There’s an old saying “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!” You should have left it as it was!!
Bad reason to change the hosts for many years that was clearly working but not anyone I am done with the show it no longer appeals to me
I do like DWTS, but unfortunately Miss Banks seems not to know what to say after the presentation of the candidate. I will continue to look at DWTS but not for Miss Banks.
Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrew’s always had something nice to say but not stupid. It was a very bad decision taken from the top of the people at the top.
The show has gone downhill. Abc/the producers made a huge mistake in firing the hosts. Tyra banks is god awful. It’s an embarrassment to the show franchise. Get better contestants…that’s how to shake thing up. They failed miserably.
I dont except the reason for firing Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrew’s. The show still had high ratings. It was all about the Black Lives Matters movement. Had nothing to do with Tom or Erin. I still dont like Tyra Banks as a host. Tom brought humor to the show, as he was also a comedian. Tyra is too boring. What they could have done is only replace Erin Andrews with Tyra and leave Tom as host. That would have made more sense.
