Telly’s Take
Comedy Central doesn’t run a lot of traditional scripted series, so while its Detroiters TV show is low-rated, it is hard to assess whether it will be cancelled or renewed just going by its Nielsen TV ratings. For the sake of context, Workaholics was renewed for seasons six and seven, back in July of 2015, but its season five ratings averages were a 0.56 in the 18-49 demo and around 870,000 viewers. Although Workaholics was not cancelled, after the lower-rated sixth season, the creators later announced season seven would be the final installment. The seventh season went on to draw a 0.29 and 480,000, respectively.
I was a little surprised when the much lower rated Detroiters was renewed for a second season on March 20th. Of course, it all comes down to money. It can’t be an expensive show to produce, so as long as it is earning its keep, and Comedy Central still wants to build on its scripted portfolio, I guess the renewal makes sense, even though I am starving. Don’t forget though, even renewals can be cancelled, so subscribe for free updates on any Detroiters cancellation and renewal news.

What do you think? Are you happy the Detroiters TV show has been renewed for a second season? How would you feel had they cancelled this TV series, instead?
I have NEVER written a comment on any TV show or movie prior to this. It’s like “Detroiters” was made specifically for me. This the funniest almost half-hour ever on TV. Seriously, this show surpasses anything from Seinfeld to Get Smart. I’m probably not even close to the demographic you’re looking for-almost 63 but I’m laughing out loud like a maniac. This show hit the ground running -not a gradual spoolup like Seinfeld. Instant funny and the inside jokes about Detroit commercials and news is priceless. Thanks a million for renewing for season 2. I hope you grow for 10… Read more »
