The original Dynasty TV show ran on ABC for nine seasons, between January 1981 and May 1989. The classic primetime sudser, from creators Richard and Esther Shapiro, starred John Forsythe, Linda Evans and Joan Collins and was launched to compete with CBS’ Dallas. Now The CW is rebooting it straight — i.e. it isn’t a sequel series or a spin-off. Other than being set in the present, much remains more or less the same, despite a new ethnicity and name-spelling here, a gender swap there, and a location about 1,400 miles east. Is that enough to enthrall a new generation of fans and attract fans of the original? Will the new Dynasty be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.
A CW soap opera, Dynasty stars Grant Show, Alan Dale, Elizabeth Gillies, Nathalie Kelley, James Mackay, Sam Adegoke, Robert Christopher Riley, Rafael de la Fuente, Brianna Brown, and Nick Wechsler. The drama centers on the wealthy Carrington family and the energy empire they must defend against the Colbys and other adversaries. Although Fallon (Gillies) is the heir apparent to father Blake’s (Show) company, she grows suspicious when she learns he is marrying the beautiful, much younger Cristal (Kelley). When Fallon sets out to expose the interloper as a fraud, her actions cost her her father’s trust, so she forges an alliance with his rival, Jeff Colby (Adegoke). Blood is thicker than water, but whether it’s dearer than oil remains to be seen.

This show is terrible. I watched two and a half episodes to give it a chance, and there is no charm. It’s not impressive at all. I couldn’t stand Nathalie Kelley in The Vampire Diaries, and she was just as awful in this. I don’t even understand why they renewed this show with how bad the ratings are. CW has a tendency to renew shows that don’t deserve it, then carry on for 4-5 seasons while other shows with better ratings get canned.
Everything can not be like the original. It’s an up to date with current issues on this show. I sooo love this show. I watched the original and I am watching this one. Some of the actors need to be recast like Jeff Colby. This one is a pure mess. I love the stories and I look forward to every week. I so love some Culhane! It’s just updated. It’s awesome and I hope there are more seasons. It cannot be compared to the old one that is for sure. But I really like this show.

Well all the way from the UK all I can say is I love it . It’s campy soapyness at its best . And now the brilliant nicolette Sheridan has been cast as alexis it’s only gunna get better . Roll on season 2
I couldn’t even make it through the first episode. This show is so unrealistic in so many ways… It’s absolutely total trash. The original series had much more class. This will be cancelled.
I personally love the fresh take on the show and Fallon is amazing. I really hope there is a season 2 because I think with Alexis coming in, it will be epic.
I believe a lot of the people here are original Dynasty fans, people who are attached to that show and will always compare the two – and rightfully so. However, they cling to things that were in the first run of the show – personally, I think it’s so EMPOWERING to see POC and LGBT representation in the reboot. This show NEEDS to get more young people watching it because that’s the demographic the show’s going for. Really hope it doesn’t get cancelled.
I love it also. It’s is up to date with issues today. I mean, it has gay relationships, interracial dating, characters from another country, just a lot of different things. It’s good and I hope to see another season(s)
The first few episodes felt a little ‘typical’; however, this quickly changed with an influx of social issues that were creatively spun to give vibrance and subtle comedic value to matters that are prevalent currently. The clothes, decor and extravagance are glorifying- they alone are enough to warrant the respect of anyone with an eye/taste or appreciation for decor and/or design. This show is great. Cattier and more bitchy than the original and with dialogue we wished they had in the original. The only thing missing is the occasional ***** slap fest we used to see between Krystle and Alexis. Seeing that Phalon and Krystle are mortal enemies it needs to happen ! The music is great and relates perfectly to what’s going on and there’s plenty of room for more scandalous behavior!
I love this show. Dynasty is like the story of my life and I love Fallon. Elizabeth Gillies is such an amazing character. This show needs to be renewed.
