FBI: Most Wanted has found its new man in charge, and executive producer Dick Wolf didn’t have to look far to find him. Dylan McDermott is joining the CBS series following Julian McMahon’s departure as FBI Supervisory Special Agent Jesse “Jess” LaCroix, per Deadline.
McDermott has appeared on Wolf’s Law & Order: Organized Crime as mobster Richard Wheatley since the start of the NBC series. He was a series regular in the first season, but he signed on as a recurring member of the cast for season two.
His time on the NBC series will wrap before he joins FBI: Most Wanted. McMahon’s final episode will air on March 8th. McDermott’s first appearance on the CBS series will run at some point in April. No details were revealed about his role, but McDermott will play a new character.
FBI: Most Wanted airs on Tuesday nights on CBS.

Will definitely miss McDermott on L&O / OC. He does a great job at being psychotically “evil” with the Wheatley character.
Mixed emotions -wish Wheatley would remain as recurring star on OC, but nevertheless, would love seeing him all the time on FBI …he’s fantastic at his craft!
Glad that his arc on Law and Order Organized Crime is ending, but it would have been nice if the folks at Wolf Entertainment had recycled Demore Barnes for the role on FBI Most Wanted

SUPER excited by this news. If I gotta lose awesome Julian McMahon, then Dylan McDermott is the perfect replacement. He is amazing.
If Dylan is as good an actor when he was in David Kelley’s,”THE PRACTICE” then that makes him an excellent choice.

Not happy about the change
We’ll see how Dylan fits in. Julian was the best. So sorry to see him go. Now if they could just get rid of Alexa Davalos. She does not fit the part at all and just tries to act sexy rather than like an FBI agent.
Well, the real good news here is that we don’t have to put up with Richard Wheatley much longer.
Hope he’s a good fit for the FBI franchise. It’s never easy to replace the lead on any TV show, but Dick Wolf seems to be able to pull that off…. on all his long running shows.
