Frankie Drake Mysteries is ending its run on CBC with its current fourth season. Ovation aired the first three seasons of the Canadian series and it will likely air the fourth and final year, but a premiere date has not been set.
Lauren Lee Smith (above) stars in the detective drama set in the 1920s as Frankie Drake – the first female detective. She uses that to her advantage to solve cases with the help of her partner, Trudy (Chantel Riley). They are often aided by Toronto police’s morality officer, Mary Shaw (Rebecca Liddiard), and morgue attendant Flo Chakowitz (Sharron Matthews).

I LOVE this show and am disheartened to see it cancelled. Canadian shows are difficult to locate on US television but when you find them, like Frankie Drake, it is well worth it!
The show just never found it’s footing or stability in storytelling past the first season. After that characters were brought in and abandoned and then random stories were thrown against the wall to see if they stuck, then never fleshed out.
It needed to stick with Drake as the lead with a strong contingent behind her, focus on how the war affected her and made her what she is, and end some of the needless extras. Oh well, it started off great but really declined with the constant changes in tone.
Would have been nice to have been able to see it in the United States on the regular basis. But now that they’ve moved a lot of these popular shows from Acorn so Ovation, many of us can’t get them.
Love the show. Are there any good reasons for the cancellation???????
Of course it’s canceled. It’s an entertaining show with good plots and interesting characters. And not once was the “F” word used. I will miss it.

Why is it being cancelled. It is a good show. Wrong move ! I love this show. So disappointed. Lately I have only been watching the Ovation channeland Hallmark original and Hallmark Mysteries channel. Please bring Frankie Drake back !!!!
That’s one of my favorite shows. The setting, the music, the clothes, but also the mystery and the way they solve it. Most of all, the friendship. Let’s not forget mom. Why is it cancelled? Makes no sense. Somebody please save it!!

I absolutely love the Frankie Drake Mysteries! It seems suspicious that of all the series to be cancelled, it is one of the very few portraying a strong, capable intelligent woman in a mans world, doing it better and in a fantastic era. I also really loved this series, as it was teaching my Granddaughter and my Great Granddaughter that females deserve their place everywhere, in any role, in this world and are as capable as any man.
