With Desperate Housewives on the way out and after the disappointing performance of Pan Am, ABC needs new shows for the Sunday night schedule. Have they found a success in GCB or will it also be cancelled?
GCB revolves around former high-school mean-girl Amanda Vaughn (Leslie Bibb). Now a widow with two children, she returns to her former Texas hometown to live with her mother (Annie Potts). Amanda comes face to face with the former schoolmates that she used to mock and tries to make amends and build a new life. Other castmembers include Jennifer Aspen, Marisol Nichols, Miriam Shor, David James Elliott, Mark Deklin, Brad Beyer, and Kristin Chenoweth.
The series debuted on March 4th to a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.56 million total viewers. It was in second place for the timeslot, behind NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice. Compared to the (series) finale of Pan Am however, ABC was up by 83% in the all-important demo.
While most shows experience a decline in week two, GCB’s demo actually rose to a 2.3 rating. The third week’s demo fell 13% but the show was in first place in the timeslot.

The numbers have fluctuated up and down over the course of the season and a couple weeks ago, it fell to a low 1.5 rating with 4.43 million. Sunday’s installment however (per the overnights) rebounded to a 1.9 demo rating, a rise of 26%.
This season has averaged a mediocre 1.9 in the demo with 5.92 million. That’s just 12% better than Pan Am. On our ABC Ratings Report Card, GCB gets a “C-” and is certainly “on the bubble.”
However, the alphabet network has a history of renewing one or two struggling freshman shows each year. Castle and Happy Endings have benefited from that strategy and the gambles have paid off.
Will GCB be renewed for a second season? It could go either way but, with ABC still being in need of new hour-long shows, it seems likely that GCB will end up on the schedule next year.

This is absolutely one of the best shows I have seen. I am so tired of all the stupid “reality” shows and the “all about me and my drama” shows. This is a hilariously refreshing twisted comedy. Pleqase, please do not cancel!
gcb is crazying good show dont take it off the air its funny and i love funny shows it takes things iam thinking about away.

My husband and I LOVE this show. It was very entertaining for us both which is very uncommon. We do not enjoy the “Reality shows” and feel those types of shows are running rampid throughout all the networks. GCB was finally a break from all the run-of-the-mill shows (COP, Bachelor(ette), and REALITY shows). We looked forward each week to a good laugh while watching GCB and truly hope it returns for another season.
I loved the show! Finally not some stupid reality show. I thought it was fresh, new and humorous. In all honesty the only time I really watched ABC was while watching Desperate Housewives and or GCB. You have got to put GCB back on the air. Great show, I hope it returns and soon if they drop GCB, there’s no other reason to turn the TV to ABC. Bring the show back!
Would hate to see GBC cancelled. Really enjoy the cast and is nice break from cop or reality shows.
I really hope that TNT network or Lifetime network would help keep “GCB”, “Missing”, and “Ringer” on the air .

my fave new show. i used to only watch desperate housewives but got turned on to this show and fell in love! i am a christian woman and it doesn’t hurt the faith in fact it may even put the Lords name out there to people who don’t believe or know him. the show is funny and it was just what housewives fans needed. i truly believe this show would have ran strong and even if it didn’t shouldn’t it at least be given a second season? OMG!! I love GCB the cast if FANTASTIC and the storyline is jammed packed with humor that has twists and turn and I love it! (And I live in the damn bible belt too.) It’s got great comedy writing and I want to see what happens with each of the developing characters please renew this show. It starts my week off with a laugh so that Monday’s aren’t as bad going into the week. You’ve got a hit just give it time to show you. understand why you cancel after 1 season instead of trying
to build something for viewers to laugh at and relate to. You
people give up to easy and its about time that Christians have
a place on abc and that you are willing to take a chance on it
but give up on it after 10 eps. Give it another chance.
Great show! Watched it every week and enjoyed the humor. Please dont replace it with another cop show. It was good comic relief! I am disappointed to hear it got cancelled. Hope another network picks it up.
