Girl Meets World ends its third and final season tonight. Recently, the cast and creator spoke with TVLine about the end of the Disney Channel TV show.
Earlier this month, the network cancelled the Boy Meets World spin-off after three seasons. The cast includes Ben Savage, Danielle Fishel, Rowan Blanchard, Sabrina Carpenter, Peyton Meyer, and August Maturo.
In the interview, creator Michael Jacobs said they had four seasons of the show planned:
We signed up to do four years. Whatever Disney Channel’s business model is, we always tailored the show for four years. We wanted to basically do the seven years of Boy Meets World in four years of Girl Meets World. We had some really wonderful plans for the fourth season. Knowing there was a possibility that it could end, we came up with ‘Girl Meets Goodbye.’”
This week, we reported Netflix was not interested in picking up Girl Meets World for a fourth season, but Jacobs remains optimistic about another chance:
Hopefully there’s another venue out there that realizes theres an audience that loves this. There are many stories to tell. Maybe there’s an incarnation where we can do this and get both the old audience and the new audience. The last thing we’d want to do is overstay our welcome, but I think we died prematurely here.”
The series finale of Girl Meets World airs tonight, January 20th, on Disney Channel
What do you think? Are you a fan of Girl Meets World? Are you sad it’s ending?
I rather they kept the plan for four then cancelling it, But now we get a show that is less called Sydney to the max
Season 3 Finale I’m pretty sure was filmed in a way to wrap up the series. We somewhat knew GMW would be over after season 3 because of this news: https://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/girl-meets-world-season-series-finale-feature-big-reunion/
Why else would the finale have been named Girl Meets Goodbye? Shows that update their intros of the stuff filmed specifically for the intro rather than consisting of clips of episodes is usually done for last seasons of shows anyway I’m pretty sure.
I watched Boy Meets World when it premiered back in 1993. I was in 6th grade just like the characters in the beginning. Girl Meets World dose not compare to Boy Meets World, but a good attempt. This show should of been on ABC on Friday nights after shows like Last Man Standing and DR. Ken. It would of been a lot more funnier and the show would of lasted at least 6 years maybe 7 like the original. If I was Michael Jacobs I would talk to ABC executives about putting the show on Friday nights on their network.
Please keep it going it’s a refreshing show where the children are respectful to parents and other adults. loved watching Boy meets world also.
Are you kidding Riley and Maya were unlikable spoiled brats who got they’re way all the time and walked out the classroom whenever they felt like it.
