Earlier this year, CBS introduced Living Biblically, a sitcom about a man who tried to live his life according to the Bible. It was cancelled after a handful of episodes had aired because of low ratings. Now, the network is looking at faith from another angle with a drama called God Friended Me. Will the drama succeed where the comedy failed? Will God Friended Me be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A drama series airing on CBS, God Friended Me stars Brandon Micheal Hall, Violett Beane, Suraj Sharma, Javicia Leslie, and Joe Morton. Set in New York City, the series revolves around a thoughtful and outspoken podcaster named Miles(Hall). Miles is an atheist and that puts him at odds with his reverend father (Morton). Miles’ life is turned upside down when he receives a friend request on social media from a user named “God”. He eventually accepts and starts digging into his new friend’s account, convinced it’s a hoax. He partners with journalist Cara Bloom (Beane) and gets additional aide from his sister Ali (Leslie) and his hacker pal Rakesh (Sharma). Miles is convinced that the “God” account is an elaborate hoax and is devoted to uncovering the truth. In the meantime, he’s playing along and, in the process, seeing his life changed forever.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
4/15 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the God Friended Me TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
*1/29/19 update: CBS has renewed the God Friended Me TV show for a second season.
I love watching the god account I tape it in case I am not home
I think God Friended me is very GOOD and is definitely needed, uplifting and relevant, especially in these current challenging times.
Thanks a lot for the opportunity to share this input.
I totally love this “God Friended Me” and I think its a wonderful family series, with no bad words etc. etc. Please keep it going. I’ve watched since the start of it and find it wonderful.
This show is an insult to the black community and African American history black people on a very high average have depended on there faith in God to make it through slavery racizium and other issues through out history and to have a black person portray someone who does not believe in God is a total insult to the black community this shows must go to the trash were it belongs.
Started well, ending weak. I don’t watch it any longer. Used to watch it early in the season even if I had to watch it on demand. Now I don’t care if I miss it and actually don’t bother.
God Friended Me is a great show!! It should be on forever.
It is a very good family show, The writing is very good.
God Friended Me is my favorite show, the only one I would not miss! It gives lessons on faith and life in a lighthearted way, and keeps us entertained in the process. Love that it is so inclusive but does not make that a big deal, just part of life. I look forward to it every time, we need more shows like this to emphasize the message of hope, faith and the power of love.
I really like this show. It gives opinions from all sides and they still get along!!! We can all be different and still be kind!!
God friended me is one of my favorite shows. It is light hearted and I look forward to watching it every week. It is different than any other tv series. I really hope it does not get canceled.
Debbie: I love this show, It’s inspirational and of excellent quality. It’s too good to be squeezed between Sunday specials?
Please renew God Friended Me. LOVE IT
I love the program
It looks at god and especially faith
From a number of different views
We need more inspiration for helping other petiole
Wether we get a text from god or not
Give a 2nd season
God Friended Me is a great program. It’s message is Hope. Whether you believe in God or not, the message is compassion. I am glad CBS has given the show another season. The audience will build. Hard to beat its Sunday night for sampling. I might guess that its rating among 50+ is much higher. Sell to that audience.
I love the show it’s lighthearted but has some real moral lessons in it. I watch it every week. It’s for fun to have something to look forward too that’s worth my time.
Great show watch it every Sunday. Hope it us not cancelled
