(Hallmark Channel)
Earlier this month, we reported that production on season nine of the Home & Family morning program would resume on March 29th. Now, it’s been revealed that the Hallmark Channel lifestyle series will end this year and won’t have a 10th season.
The series began in 1996 as The Home and Family Show on The Family Channel (a predecessor to Fox Family Channel, ABC Family, and the current Freeform channel) and was hosted by Cristina Ferrare, Michael Burger, and Chuck Woolery. The latter left in 1996 and the series ran until 1998.
The show was rebooted in 2012 on Hallmark Channel. Mark Steines and Paige Davis co-hosted the new version but Davis left after six weeks and was replaced by Ferrare, a host of the original iteration. In 2016, Ferrare was dropped and replaced by Debbie Matenopoulos. Then, Steines was replaced by Cameron Mathison in 2018.
In addition to celebrity interviews, Home & Family episodes typically include lifestyle and craft segments. Contributors have included Kym Douglas, Orly Shani, Ken Wingard, Shirley Bovshow, Lawrence Zarian, Paige Hemmis, Ali Fedotowsky, Larissa Wohl, Maria Provenzano, and Tamera Mowry-Housley.
Prior to the pandemic, the Hallmark series aired for two hours on weekdays. Due to COVID-19, production shut down in March 2020 but resumed in September. Filming ceased again in December and production is expected to resume next week. Episodes will begin airing on April 5th with a one-hour, three-day-a-week schedule. The series finale will air on August 4th.
A statement about the Home & Family cancellation was released by Hallmark, per Variety.
The ninth and current season of Home & Family will be the series’ last. For nearly a decade, the show has anchored our daytime lineup, featuring countless hours of cooking, lifestyle, DIY, health, entertaining, and decorating segments. We want to thank the heart and soul of the show, our incredibly talented cast and crew — led by co-hosts Debbie Matenopoulos and Cameron Mathison — for their creativity, hard work, and dedication. Our audience can look forward to more of the topical segments they know and love when the show returns on Monday, April 5 with a new one-hour, three-day-a-week format. The program’s final episode airs Wednesday, August 4th.
What do you think? Do you like the Home & Family TV series? Are you sorry to hear that the show’s been cancelled and won’t have a 10th season?
Enjoyed the show, all of it, and sorrry to see it go. Hard to find entertaining, informative, g-rated programming these days.
Home and Family was a lucky find for me. I looked forward to every segment. No one was angry and the cast really seemed supportive of one another. The sweet animals who needed homes were given a fair shot. The DIY segments helped me become the “genius”grandmother. I felt uplifted and always looked forward to each show. Hallmark has joined the other networks. Money over contribution to making the world a little better place.
Please renew home and family in it’s original format. We need happy entertainment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve been wondering what happened to my favorite morning show. I’ve learned so much and love the hosts and all presenters. Will be sad to see you go. You have started my mornings out for years. What is replacing you? It will never be the same. Sherry from AZ & WI.
I’m very saddened to hear of the shows cancellation. I enjoyed watching it every morning. It was fun, uplifting and not political. I will miss them. I hope that maybe they can come back in a different format somehow!
I’m disappointed to hear this. I never made the crafts, rarely used the recipes but really appreciated the company at home! Oh, and I do like the redecorating projects. Why not continue with the one hour, three times a week format?
I prefer the one-hour format too, and yes, good company for sure.
Sad to see it go. I enjoyed watching the show. I learned a few things, that I didn’t know. Best of luck to Cameron & Debbie.
Very upset that Home and Family is cancelled. Really enjoyed the new format n Debbie n Cameron hosting. Morning TV needs this show or one very similar. Hope Hallmark will eventually realize this n bring us something new!?
Its sad to hear of the cancellation; yes it was total fluff, but so needed in this era of virus, cancel culture & sad news. I will miss the show.
I was kinda getting tired of Debbie thinking she knew everything
Very sad to know that one of the best talk shows is leaving Hallmark. What is the reason why they cancelled it is it because of political reasons financial reasons rating ? There was not one segment but I did not like on this show I like that they offered people a chance talk about their books they wrote and some of the new movies on the Hallmark Channel and you got to meet the people personally. There was not any arguing fussing or fighting like the other talk shows like The View! I don’t know if Hallmark will get… Read more »
I Hate to read this, I looked forward to the show every morning, I have missed it, I really enjoy Debbie and Cameron, I’m going to miss keeping up with their family.
I stopped watching it when Christina Ferrari (sp?) was let go.
Yes exactly and Mark Steines as well they were a great team and were just fired for no reason. Hallmark is not as goodie goodie as they pretend!
I am disappointed in the cancellation. I enjoyed many of the shows & interviews with various HM movie actors & actresses. I also like Cameron as host, with Debbie. The pet rescue portion was fun too. They, & all the series regulars will be missed.
OMG, Finally
Yes !
