Jeopardy may soon see the exit of Alex Trebek. The show host was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in March, and a special will focus the series and its host later this week. Trebek has been the host of the popular game show since 1984.
TV Insider shared comments made by Trebek to ABC News. Trebek knows he may soon need to say good-bye to the series and its fans. He said the following:
“It’ll be a significant moment for me. But I’ve kind of, in my mind, rehearsed it already, and what I would do on that day is tell the director, ‘Time the show down to leave me 30 seconds at the end. That’s all I want.’ And I will say my goodbyes and I will tell people, ‘Don’t ask me who’s going to replace me because I have no say whatsoever. But I’m sure that if you give them the same love and attention and respect that you have shown me… then they will be a success and the show will continue being a success. And until we meet again, God bless you and goodbye.”
As for his health, Trebek admitted he is looking into new treatments after chemotherapy did not work for him. He said the following:
“We may try a new protocol… a different chemo or something in the trial stage that is not chemotherapy. I don’t mind experimenting. I’ve got nothing to lose, so let’s go for it.”
For now, fans of the series can still see Alex Trebek as host of the series.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Jeopardy? Will you continue to watch the series if a new host is introduced for the game show?
For several years whenever Jeopardy was on, my son who was a young teenager and his friend would take turns calling each other and for the next half hour, the phone was unavailable to the rest of us. They played and laughed, having fun and challenging each other nightly. Alex, You are in my thoughts every night. Stay strong. I think the whole country loves you
God bless….
I remember watching Jeopardy for years with Art Fleming as the host. It took some gett9ng-used-to when Alex took over, but he’s been one class act for 35 years. Even though he says not, I’m sure the execs will listen to any input he has on his replacement.
Just as “The Price Is Right” adapted when Bob Barker retired, I’m sure Jeopardy will go on with a capable host.
Mr. Trebek will definitely be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and always know God is in control.
I think Alex Trebek is a one of a kind. A gentleman with as much class as I have ever seen. I am not sure if I will watch the replacement but if I do, it will be most difficult to get Alex out of my mind..
Thank you for the opportunity to submit my feelings.
Alex please just hang in there. They are coming up with mnew treatments every day! I know you can beat this and we are all pulling for
Thank you so much Alex Trebek for your example of faithfulness. You are rock steady – always cool, calm and classy. We love your heart for people and you make the game something fun that we can count on.
Surely you know that you have brought so much happiness to so many people for so many years!! God bless you and your family! Praying for miracles and happiness for you! Janet and family

I’ve watched jeopardy for years. My heart goes out to Alex and his family. I hear that Jeopardy is going to ABC. I hope not, because I can’t get ABC TV stations. I’m a senior and I get TV through the air.
Of course I will continue to watch. I’ve been a fan since the original with Art Fleming. I’m 70 years old, and jeopardy is a great way to keep your bean in shape. I will miss Alex Trebek, and l’m rooting for Ken Jennings as his replacement.
Please go to Israel for their new treatment for stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
I don’t want you to go keep trying something else my family will miss you God bless you and your family
Family is the most important thing in your life Alex, take time to be with them. The show will go on, I’ll continue watching no matter who the host is. My favorite memories are watching Jeopardy with my family as a kid growing up, then as I cared for my aging parents and our roles were reversed, Jeopardy was the one constant in our lives. Thanks for the memories. God bless!
I have been a Jeopardy fan since childhood and will be until the day I die. I will miss Alex and wish him comfort during this difficult time
Alex trebek a class act to the very end .
