There won’t be a second season of the Kindred TV show, at least on Hulu. The sci-fi drama series was produced by FX and was released as an exclusive on the streaming service. All eight episodes dropped on December 13th.
Created by showrunner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, the Kindred TV series is based on the 1979 novel of the same name by Octavia Butler. The show stars Mallori Johnson, Micah Stock, Ryan Kwanten, Gayle Rankin, Austin Smith, Antoinette Crowe-Legacy, and David Alexander Kaplan.
Set in 2016, a young Black woman and aspiring writer named Dana James (Johnson) has just moved to Los Angeles in order to be close to her Aunt Denise (Eisa Davis), her only remaining family member. As Dana begins to settle into her new home, she finds herself being pulled back and forth in time, emerging at a 19th-century plantation in the Antebellum South. She finds herself having to confront secrets she never knew ran through her blood.
Kindred generated a 59% approval rating based on critics’ reviews while 88% of the Rotten Tomatoes audience gave it a thumbs up. In the end, viewership was likely not strong enough to warrant FX ordering a second season.
THR reports that Jacobs-Jenkins is expected to shop Kindred to other outlets since he envisioned a three or four-season run for the show. The first season covered about a third of the Butler novel’s material.

Please, please bring back the Kindred series. You left me hanging and I would love to know how it ends. Guess that’s why they call it a “Ciff hanger”, except there doesn’t look like there’s going to be a resolution to what happens.

This show is one of the best I’ve seen in a while, and I’m SO bummed that they cancelled the second season. As a huge Butler fan, I think they did a beautiful job with the source material, and the show itself is so well put together. Please bring back Kindred!!!!

I was really sad to see this show cancelled. We binged watched it and got pulled right in the story. Hopefully it will be picked up somewhere else. I personally never go by critic’s ratings or reviews as I find it usually is opposite in what I enjoy.
I cannot believe this show was cancelled! AND two days before black history month!! This was the best show ALL YEAR!!

I can’t believe this show was cancelled. Me and my daughter loved this show. I read it was 88% rating. That’s a B. Come on networks. How about you do more advertising to get the word out about the show. If FX doesn’t want it I really hope that it finds another place that will pick it up. FREEVEE, PRIME, there are so many other networks.
Fx is really ******** up with the cancelation on Kindred! At least wrap up the story line! I really hope that another network will pick Kindred up and give us as many seasons they can can! So freaking sick of falling in love with these shows and the characters and being just cancelled with no wrap up on the story.
I hope that they continue to stream on hulu it was a great show, I really enjoyed it, I don’t think enough ppl know about it to give it a chance.

This show better get picked up by a network with a brain in their head!! This is one of the best shows I’ve seen on tv in years!!! What’s with these ratings, they don’t give any show a chance these days, if we only go by ratings I guess we’ll end up with nothing to watch but crappy reality tv like The Kardashians!! This was posted as a mini-series in the first place. Not sure if this news??
The creator wanted to make 2-3 more seasons so I’d say he didn’t consider it a mini-series. These days, everything’s a mini-series/limited series until it gets renewed.
Somebody posted a story or a link that this was a miniseries about 6 months ago. I put it down on my spreadsheet around August timeframe.
I’ve seen it referred to it as a limited series but I believe FX has only referred to it as a series.
